Best amp for home - regardless of price?

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

The best Fender amp I've owned or played. Great choice!

Just had a listen to the Supersonic 22 vs a Two Rock Studio Pro 22 on Youtube and to be honest the Fender sounds pretty damn good and is much more versatile! Oh......and half the price!!

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

Gotta say - played a Sonic 22 once. It was pretty frickin cool all around.

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

If you're okay with using solid state , then might I suggest either a Peavey Bandit 112 or Studio Pro 112 Transtube series ? They're both USA made, and the Bandit is rated at 80 watts while the Studio Pro is 65 watts. Both amps have great clean tones that are similar to a Fender while the Gain on both of them can be used for either a nice Bluesy tone or full out Metal.

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

The Fender Supersonic 22 combo would be a good choice. From vintage cleans to some of the best gain tones Fender has ever created. And it's a bit less than boutique amps.

Worth bearing in mind that the 22 is also available as a head, with a rather tasty looking 2x12" cabinet to go with it (or one of the larger SS heads)

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

Have you tried a a great no frills amp from Goodsell. They don't get any mention on this board.
when I was shopping for a better amp, I tried a couple at Martin Music in Memphis.
Low power - under 20 watts
American made
excellent construction
really nice sound

Here is an older video of the company owner talking about a new line of amps.

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

I'd personally go for an old Princeton or Deluxe Reverb, but not a lot of info on what you want to play.

+1. I have a 67 Princeton reverb as my practice amp at home. However they really only start to sound their best between 2.5 and 3. Another suggestion would be a vintage Fender vibro-champ which might not be quite as loud. One of the best amps I ever had.

Super sonic 22....great at about any volumes, can be used from a whisper to flat out:)
Stuck a G12H Anniversary Celestion in mine, made it even more useful!

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

Thanks guys! You've given me lots to think about - and lots to check out on YT! Fills my rather long days in when I'm not fit enough to play guitar (Thankfully not too often!).

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

i went with a deluxe reverb reissue and sometimes I really kick myself for not getting a supersonic. some dirt pedals are pretty cool but like others have said very few have the response of playing straight into an amp, and they are often expensive ($150+) AND I have to worry about batteries, power supplies, more cables, more noise, etc.
The DRRI clean has a little extra chime, shimmer, or sparkle, whatever you wanna call it, and that's the only thing keeping me from trading it in! I wish I could own both amps.

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

One of a 100, low wattage, offerings from:
Swart
/13
Carr
Fargen
Fuchs
Soldano
Orange
East
VHT
Valvetech
Two Rock
Victoria
Mesa
Traynor
The list is huge.
Can you build.?
I built a Fender Vibro Champ in head from for my accountant. He runs it into a 1x12 cab with an Emi Texas Heat. THAT amp and cab would be VERY hard to beat for Home/Recording.
good luck

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

If I had the budget I'd definitely be looking at the Mesa Boogie Transatlantic TA-15.

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

If you're going to look at Laney have a listen to the VC15. You don't have to spend a fortune for amazing tone.

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

I use a Victoria 5112 at home. If you like to plug straight in it sound good turned up just about all the way.

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

Hey dude, have a look at the Peavey VYPYR Series you don't need pedals all the effects are in the amp so there's less crap on the floor, I have a 60W vypyr and its lots of fun. ROCK ON:)

Fender Princeton Reverb :bigthumb:
Old one if you can but the RI is ok.
Maybe change out the stock speaker (especially on the RI) for something quality and tailored to your taste like a weber, I like mine with celestions for a little british mid range.

Re: Best amp for home - regardless of price?

Really...A vintage Princeton Reverb, or a Deluxe Reverb (or reissues with minor mods). Still the best low to mid volume tube BLUES amps...ever!
