Best bridge pick ups for les paul

Re: Best bridge pick ups for les paul

right now I have all stock electronics and pickups on my epiphone les paul, the neck pickup seems a little to dark and bassy and needs more mid, but it's close to the tone I want, and the bridge is too bright especially since I use the clean channel a lot. I like that i can get some nice zakk wylde type squeals from it, but it has too much noise to it if you know what i mean, it gets muddy at high gain. I was thinking maybe getting the pearly gates instead of the a2p and a sh-5, also i'm going to replace my pots and capacitors. will that be better than my current set up?

Absolutely!! Anything would be an improvement over the stock Epi pups.

The Pearly Gates is perfect for the neck of a LP.

I don't recommend the Custom. I personally don't like the ceramic sound...brittle high end. The '59 or Demon work very well in a LP bridge.

Stock Custom and a handful of magnets.

For the sounds you described, what the man said.Custom+LesPaul also has a very good clean sound considering it's output. If you still find you can use some tuning to perfection,go A8 for slightly warmer but even angrier,or UoA5 for warmer and more dynamics responding/vintage feeling. You can go out of control mode with a DD,sounds incredible too,but to me it's a second choice because of already mentioned sounds.Another big plus for Pg Neck.

I've got 8 Epi Les Pauls with hotter pickups- like them all and between Custom/PGn, DD/DDn, Alt8/ Screamin Demon, Super D/PAF 36th, Super 3/Super 2, 500T/496R, 498T A8/ 490R A5 (and a set of EMTY Blackouts that came used in a different guitar) I find myself going to the Custom the most (but have a few magnets and may try going Custom 8)
