Best Constructed Tweed Strat Tele Guitar case?

Looking for a traditional vintage style tan Tweed Strat Tele guitar case. Reading a lot of negative reviews on the ones I have found so far.
Any experience with this? I would imagine GG ( Golden Gate) is still the best, although as I said, there are still many negative reviews on these.

The problem is probably the tweed, it just doesn't hold up very well. The G&G cases are really good; I have a couple of G&Ls with them in the standard black tolex. TKL has some nice cases too. The best thing might be a Fender-branded case; probably the most prevalent and the deepest discount.

Good luck.

Tweed doesn't hold up well on any case I've ever tried. Maybe if it never leaves the house. But if you are constantly moving it, in all weather cnditions, and loading it with all of the other gear, you'll notice threads of it coming off in no time. Then they start looking pretty scrappy. I think tweed is good for looks, but not in practice, unless the guitar never leaves your house.

Re: Best Constructed Tweed Strat Tele Guitar case?

If you want a tweed to last, lacquer it. It might make it a bit heavier though...

Re: Best Constructed Tweed Strat Tele Guitar case?

i have some g&g cases and they are great. the tweed still gets beat up though. never thought about lacquering them but i bet that would be cool

Re: Best Constructed Tweed Strat Tele Guitar case?

I'll echo all the comments...

I love my G&G cases, especially the "interesting" ones with Tweed or blue Tolex. The Tweed is rather fragile, as expected, and I'd assume lacquring it would help, but that's a distinct look.

For true durability, you have to go thermoplastic chainsaw case. For ultimate, go with ATA approved flight cases.

I just need a nice case for short jaunts and home storage, so G&G works well for me.

while I am a Basic Roadrunner guy

I found the Journeyman line of cases nice
I think they are made by Gator, but I could be wrong

I like my Roadrunner thermoplastic case I got for my LP
snug and fitted
better than the Epi Tolex covered cardboard one I got for my Florentine

in a strat case
would you be looking at fitted or rectangle cased

the fitted are much better at holding the guitar still while traveling
but the rectangle stack more easily if you are loading or storing

I had a fitted Fender Thermoplastic case years ago
that I liked a lot

my buddy had an Ibanez plastic case
his guitar thumped around inside it and it separated and fell apart
Ibanez wooden Tolex rectangle bass cases were the same way
I had one of those briefly

I like the Blue lining in the Journeyman above
but otherwise they are identical

Normally I'd have to say that I like the blue better as well, but in this case (no pun intended[emoji12]) I really like the contrast of the orange against the color of the guitar:

Plus, the orange feels more "retro" to me, completing the overall package of the Tele (which has a "vintage" look anyway) and the tweed case.

Re: Best Constructed Tweed Strat Tele Guitar case?

Thankfully, the only tweed case I have is a MF 69 dollar cheapo because my cat loves tweed. I think if I lacquered it, the "tweed" would melt ...

I own a couple GG Tweed cases that are Carvin branded and they have held up very well. Of all the tweed cases I have owned the GG's were the best built by far.

I agree Brian, that GF case has that classic styling that will always look good. Im in the market for a few cases myself, so I appreciate the headsup on this.

I've purchased 3 cases from them and they're good cases. Look great too. And I don't mean just "good for the money."

The price, though, makes them a helluva bargain IMO.

Re: Best Constructed Tweed Strat Tele Guitar case?

Absolutely, and they seem to have some wiggle room which makes them good for reverse headstocks.
Do the latches and hinges seem like they are decent? Do you play out with yours?

I can imagine that guy who shows up with a flight case and inside of it is a tweed case and inside of that is a cigar box guitar, and inside of that is pure mojo.

Re: Best Constructed Tweed Strat Tele Guitar case?

I've been through 5 tweed cases. 3 of them were lacquered from the start. Those hold up better, but bang it against anything else, like the metal corners on an amp or flight case and it will still go right through the tweed. Tweed is not road worthy. I use the tweeds for long term storage at home or small local gigs. If I have to travel, I put it in another case or use a gig bag, depending on how far I'm going and whether my gear will be mixed with others'.

Latches and hinges are indeed solid, and yes I do play out with it. That said, in all fairness my band only does a couple of gigs a month and I like to rotate through my 9 electric guitars... so it's only been out a few times (every guitar has its own case). Plus our gigs are bar gigs, but not particularly rough places so my cases don't take too much of a beating.

The construction of the case is solid, and so far the tweed covering is great. To be honest I haven't really put it through that much, but I'm not particularly worried either.

Definitely plenty of wiggle room for a reverse headstock, but pay attention to your guitar's overall length. My Strat build has a headstock that makes it about an inch longer than what will fit, so I bought one of the GFS offset cases for that one instead since they're just a smidge bigger.

Re: Best Constructed Tweed Strat Tele Guitar case?

As far as durability goes, fabric isn't as robust as vinyl, which is not as robust as molded, which is not as robust as the laminate that most of the ATA-rated cases used to be made of. My Anvils from the 70s are scarred but intact, and have taken hits that would have penetrated the surface of a molded case and perhaps destroyed a wood frame one.

I have one Journeyman case and like it. I don't think the outer burlap is any more durable than tweed fabric, but it's distinctive and I like the luxurious blue lining. Build quality is good, as is the hardware. It has a solid feel, with excellent interior padding and good fit.

I have a couple of the GFS cases too, including a tweed one. Unbeatable for the money and quite decent quality regardless, as some already have said. No trouble so far with the latches or hinges and interior padding is okay though not excellent. They have a selection of colors & patterns which changes periodically. One of my favorites is tan "ostrich" vinyl with green lining; that one is no longer offered. They have paisley now, which is kinda cool. And they ship fast.

The best tweed case I have is a G&G. Real quality, and a bit more expensive than the cheap ones but not outrageous, especially for a favorite instrument.

TKLs are super quality too. I have a number of those going back many years but I'm not sure they offer tweed these days.

Re: Best Constructed Tweed Strat Tele Guitar case?

Add another vote for G&G tweed I love mine.

Re: Best Constructed Tweed Strat Tele Guitar case?

Tweed just screams 'guitar case' which might attract some would-be thieves. I like cases painted in hot pink that say 'Danger: Live Bees' on them. No one goes near them.
