Well distortion itself is quiet a gainy heavy sounding beast and the DoD big pig fat distortion i have does just about what you described....

Actually the best PEDAL I can imagine would have a neutral effect on the tone and just add distortion. That's why I like my DS-1 -- my amp still sounds like my amp, just distorted.

i like the basic ds-1. i think the MXR distortion+ is pretty cool too.

im not into the metal crapper (metal master) or metal zone.
theyre for punks who think that a little pedal can give u exact metallica tones.
y do i say that? cause my friend has one. and yes... hes a wannabe.

Nah, it's just the old dudes know better than to get distortion out of cheap pedals...

Seems like everybody on this board who's 30+ has realized all you need is a guitar and an amp...

Heh yeah....
Anyways what is the best overdrive/distortion....that what suits you the best, and there is a tons of pedals out there that produces the waves people craves.
It is an individual taste...so nothing really is the best.
And some people can make a trashcan sound like something from outher space, while others cannot drive one good note out of the most expensive most customised rig in the world.........it is how it all fits together, the sum of the player and the amp, strings, wires, pedals, how it is all connected...etc etc loads of stuff that influences how you play.
So here you are....hehe

wel in my post i was looking at the benefits of distortion but Personally i don't like distortion, too over saturated, i love the od from my dsl 50 tho..and the lead 1 the classic type overdrive is class...

Jump over all the other garbage and go straight to the Tonebone Hotbritish
for $230, the Banzaieffects.com Fireball for $200, the Fulltone Dist. Pro $180,
or a Marshall Gov'ner for a lower budget $80. Don't try and save money,
you'll end up with more garbage that you'll end up selling to get what I suggested. :headbang: :werd:

For all that?

I'd try the DOD Grunge. I don't know if it'll do the taping thing, but it's really heavy in the bass, yet sounds like a stretched cat and mutes like mad.

Not to mention the feedback.

People would pay a fortune for these if they were stuck in some kind of boutique box and sold for $230, but since they're DOD........




Anyone want to buy a nice dirt box? Only $230!!!

I gave my DOD Grunge pedal to my little sister after I bought the DS-1. There's something too completely rediculous about that pedal's distortion that turns me off.

Maybe it's the fact that even with the gain knob down all the way it was too much distortion for even the deadliest of death metal.

The best STOCK pedal I've tried is a ToneBone Hot British, which I proudly own.

I also own a Keeley DS-1 which just eats the stock unit for lunch.

The Keeley modded Metal Zone is supposed to be killer.
Also, I forgot the Maxon Distortion Pro.

Save for the Tonebone Hotbritish. For a pedal that will give you tight focused distortion at low levels and killer thick heavy tones with a big tube amp, there's no
competition. They nailed it with that one.

Count me in for the Tonebone Hot British. I use one thru my Peavey Classic 30 and this pedal definatley delivers some serious low end chunk. Love it!

My HM-3 seems to make my friends jealous or make my friends want to buy it. It sounds as good with my gear as the distortion on my friends Valvestate 150 and he has a gibson sg
