Best Low Cost SG?

Hey guys, I have a great LP Copy(Michael Kelly Patriot) with a set of Seths. This guitar is truly amazing when I'm playing Bad Co. and Free blues rock. However, I am trying to find a low cost SG copy to put a set of 59's in when I play Cream. Anybody have any recommendations for the best SG clones out there?

i dont know how much you want to spend, but i got a gibson faded SG with a case for $400 on ebay. A USA guitar for $400 is a great deal...and it is a great guitar. If your patient you can get 1 for 4-500

Re: Best Low Cost SG?

Check out Burny or Tokai, Japanese companies that Gibson sued for making better copies for less money. I've got a Burny SG on the "Some Day" list 'cuz I'd never buy a Gibson...

+1 for the Gibson Faded SG, played one at GC last weekend and loved it. Even new they are really inexpensive at only $650.

Re: Best Low Cost SG?

if you go for a faded SG plan to pay for a fret leveling job for sure...i played 4 of them when i was thinking of buying one and each one had very sharp fret ends...one was so bad is scratched my hand just short of drawing blood. so make sure you find one with good smooth frets (play alot of them) or budget in a fret leveling.

That's a good idea, I was really lucky with the one that I played as the neck, frets and set up were perfect.

i just got my dad an Epi SG for $200. Its his first guitar, and I think it will do quite nicely.

A second hand Guild S-100... Amazing guitar for the money. I have a 97', I bought new for 1100$. Every time I grab Gibson SG I still get surprised of how overpriced they are comparing with mine. And they came with duncans stock (59 and JB).

Re: Best Low Cost SG?

+1 on the sharp frets thing, I meant to mention that earlier...a faded SG cut my finger at the store once...I was mad.

I mean, if Gibson wants their name to be synonymous with "great quality guitars" they should at least put the frets on right...Squiers don't even cut my hands up.

that's almost entirely why i paid the extra cash for a standard, and i don't regret it, the SG standard is a very well made guitar

I could see the Faded being a very good guitar... after you pay about 100 bucks for a fret job. I could see a few better deals than that though...

Agile should make SGs (I've never played any Agile though... from what people say about their LP copies it would be a great idea if they did)

...Isn't the nicer Epi LP about as much as a Faded Gibson?
