Best pedalboard for every situation !

hello

i made my pedalboard for every situation : from blues to metal

i have not a chorus/flanger or other yet

but if you have thought to that

tell me what's your pedalboard for every situation ?;:)

or maybe your guitar for every situation :))

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

I have given up on the idea of a permanent pedal board; I simply switch things out too much. I have 2 boards, and wire them up as needed. I do not have a "go-to" board configuration any more.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

This is my everything pedalboard...

Although, I'm still changing a pedal for another from time to time...

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

Anything is better than having to use all this cabling...

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

good pedalboard!! good and big :))
i have the metal muff too
it's not a pedal with a tube but i don't know a better sound for metal and EMG:)

i separate two things: if i have a band a just a bag, i will take some pedals to go to my rehearsals in a studio and that's all
if i am at home, i will have more pedals

have you experience with the TC electronic nova system or the other?

having 2 pedalboards is an interesting thing

other thing : now i think an arpegiator and shimmer (with pitch shifter) is very important to have synth sounds sometimes
but this effects are rare

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

There is no best, let alone best for everything. It's just a matter of finding what works for you.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

I require 3 phasers, and a delay the rest, I am pretty flexible.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

yes, i know there is no best pedalboard but just what we need
but the tc electronic g system and nova system seem to be good

if someone have played with it, you can talk here:)

i tried many multi effects: from Korg to line 6 M9 to zoom ms50 to zoom g9 2TT
now, i prefer my pedals but having all modulations-delay-reverb-arpegiator-shimmer in one pedal can be interesting too

Eventide H9 can have that
the H9 max model but we can't mix effects if i understand well

99 presets:) only

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

My every/any situation pedal board would be my boss gt10 by itself. My specific personal situation board consists of tuner,phaser,od,wah,delay,chorus/flange pedals.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

I don't have an every situation board. I don't have enough pedals for that. :) My amp is more of an every situation amp with it being a modeler.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

ah
if you have a Boss gt or other or amp like a modeler amp ok !!!!
but i had that and now i prefer a good sound at home with pedals with my tubes amp

if i had to play on stage, maybe i would use a Boss gt

I use a Mesa Roadster, so I only have four channels and reverb. Fortunately, that is usually enough for me. I do have an EQ, booster and a couple OD pedals on my board in case of emergency, though. I don't use many effects and prefer an old Alesis rack unit for when I absolutely have to have effects for something.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

my situations are pretty much blues/rock based. i do plenty of gigs with just a guitar and amp with reverb. i have a small board with timmy->jetter red shift->sd deja vu that i use sorta frequently and a big board that i almost never use even though it has awesome toys on it

I use the gt with my TUBE amp & still get a good sound equivalent to my all analog pedalboard. I use it at home or live, same with the board with pedals. Using a multi fx unit like the boss gt/l6 m13/tc gsystem & the likes requires setting levels correctly so as to to not add mud/digital clipping between all the three cables running back & forth to the amp. You get the levels set at unity & acquire some low capacitance cables to run in the loop, then it sounds transparent otherwise complex multi fx units aren't for everyone. Lucky I can make it work with my amp.

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

it can't be equivalent
it will be too much easy

i tried a vox tonelab st with a jcm 800/2000 and with a Laney: awful, very bad
but a man who had to make a demo had some good sounds with it in a video
with a Vox amp and a really good guitar with Emg pickups

but i think it was an illusion
it was a special gig, a demo
and for my part
i lost the wonderful sound of the tubes in rehearsals and at home but
modulation were good

i tried a ZOOM g9 2tt : i had fun with this thing
amazing gain for disto
good effects
but i prefer 10times more my pedal for disto
the tubes was good for the sound but it was too cold for me too

i tried a line 6 M9 : true bypass but the sound was horrible too
so cold
so numeric
no fuzz here!! just numeric fuzz which needs a long time with eq to have a decent fuzz
the sound was very very far from what i waited for this thing

delay and reverbs were good it has an influence on my sound
i did not like that

modulation were so cold too
shimmer was good, flerb,

korg ax 1000g : first multi effect
very good if you don't want to pay a lot of money

digitech rp 350: very vey very cold
you will have all the sounds
but it was for beginners
you won't have good fuzz or others
it was too much numeric too
but i had fun too with it
whammy was really great

i sold it too

zoom ms 50g : i thought that it will be a great product
no
very very cold too
all the sounds but very very cold too
no true bypass
vibe and chorus are good
delay are awesome
reverb too but there is no analog sound and no tubes so ?

i prefer 10 times more a pedal :)

and for the Boss gt, i don't know but i don't want to try ;)

i would prefer to try Eventide, Strymon or empress or Ehx epitome (i really don't know how it sounds) or tc electronic maybe

empress and strymon are a mix of analog/numeric

these products are great for a headphone, sono, pa system or computers
or if you don't want to have a lot of pedals of heavy things
or if only want just one pedal for all the presets and sounds

if i have the choice
i will never use this in front of an all tubes amp

and when i tried the Marshall regenerator : it was a good surprise
chorus were warm and beautiful
flanger was just good (not amazing) just correct
phaser: not as good as EHX
vibe not as good too

but i can have chorus, flanger-chorus, a little bit of flanger
little bit of vibe/leslie

but i want to try another thing now and mine is broken
the button :(
these kinds of pedals are fragile

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

^ all of those you've tried are rather dated, minus the zoom ms50g, id rather take the ms70cdr over that though. Some of those dont even the options or connectivity to work for me with my laney lc50.

Use what you like &comfortable with though, for me I can make mine sound equally good as my individual pedals, its not easy & takes some work, time and patience. I wouldnt get one for amp simulations though, just effects, which is how I use mine. The key thing to note here is "equally good", not equivalent in sound. ;D

Re: Best pedalboard for every situation !

I've been back and forth with this very same topic for decades.
Honestly the best way to get a universal pedal board to work for all situations is a Boss GT100 or any of the older models IF you prefer them but the GT100 is pretty special.

So here's why I don't like pedals , I'm no fan of pedal dancing. You have to do so much tap dancing to get things setup like you want for whatever song your trying to play. Unless you get a management system for your pedals , this can be frustrating especially if you have songs that go from clean to Drive back and forth a few times.
Example:
I wrote this song that has a clean beginning. I like Delay and Chorus on it , then when the song speeds up , I go to the Drive channel , and remove the Chorus. Thats 2 steps instead of one. When I had pedals , this sucked ass and I found myself not using the Chorus as it was another step but it really got the point of the song across so much better then just using the delay.
Now the Delay can be set the same or different for both parts of the song. With Pedals , you kinda have to unless you have a DD-20 or 2 Delay pedals with different settings. Now if you want one setting on clean and another on Drive , this is more pedal dancing and during a song , this sucks ass.

So now enter the Boss GT-100. Now I can Program a patch for my clean tone using my amps ( I never use the Model amps as I think they all suck ass) clean channel , the exact Delay settings I want WITH the chorus. How beautiful is that? Then when I need to switch to the drive channel , with one stomp , I change over to MY AMPS DRIVE CHANNEL , have a New Delay setting and the Chorus is off. Now with all that flexibility , I can even boost if I want. I can have in the patch a Boost pedal which gets located in front of the amp and the effects are in the Effects loop. Complete control Complete flexibility. You simply can't do that with stand alone pedals without a management system.

So now lets talk about sound quality. For years and years I struggled with this which kept me bouncing back and forth with pedals and just excepting that I can't tolerate less then ideal sound quality and kept feeling pedals sound better and I should rethink my writing as I go to far with all these things I want to do during certain songs with turning on and off effects. To me I felt hand cuffed but excepted this as my tone can make or break me. If my tone is off ,I'm off and I'm unhappy and can't express myself well.

So I started my adventure with Multi effects with Korg. A buddy of mine asked if I would like to have it to try out and if I liked it give him something for it. So I took it home and loved all the cool things it did. I never was able to get it the way I liked it and ended up selling it off.
Then I tried out the Vox Valvetronix and that thing sounded really nice with the Preamp tube and all but again couldn't get it exactly how I wanted it and went back to pedals.

Boss has always been a huge part of my pedal boards and I always felt they make the effects and do the best job at it bare none. Yeah I've tried many many different brands and always felt no one does a better job then Boss in general.
Boss has been making these GT boards and the GT 8 was out for a while and I decided to get one and give it a spin. Well Heaven was found and this board did exactly what I wanted it to do, has built in Volume pedal and everything I could ever want BUT this ****ing board sucked some life out of my Drive channel and I could never get it dialed in to the point where my drive channel sounded like it does when nothing is in the way or when I was running all pedals.
Tone suck out from these boards killed me. I hated the living hell out of it as I would change to my drive channel and it would sound like some other amp. After many talks with Tech support , I was something to do with my settings and the way my effects loop worked. I thought BULL**** as when I ran my Boss DD-20, CE-20 and at the end a Sonic Maximizer in the effects loop and then out front of the amp I had a Wah and Boost pedal and my sound sounded exactly the same as if I had no pedals connected when they where all off. They all also sounded exactly as I would like.
So I sold the GT-8 and just went back to using all my pedals. I had others I put in the mix but I didn't really use Flanger , Phaser , Pitch Shifters , Oct 2 etc much more for play then tools.
So a friend of mines band got this kick ass guitar player. He was a 80's metal guy that had a George Lynch style and could pull off Dokken like no other I have ever heard play. George is very hard to recreate , sure you can play the notes but the attack and feel George has not many can even come close. This dude had it.
He used a Gt-10 which just came out and a Mesa Boogie amp cab etc. He showed me all the improvements the GT-10 had over the 8 and Told me I should give the Multi Effects thing another try. So I did.
Well This board did sound much better then the GT-8 and the Amps built in a lot was actually usuable. I was kinda surprised I found myself actually using them and digging the sound. No it wasn't perfect or sounded exactly like the real thing but I was able to dial them in with a lot of work to get them to sound pretty organic. Using the 4CM method helps as skipping the front end of your preamp really helps not to mention the warmth of a good powerful Tube amp can bring out the modelers better then most of what I have ever heard.
But in the end I was still not happy with the sound of my Drive channel as it still didn't sound quite right. I worked with Tech Support and I got it a lot better then the GT-8 but I still didn't completely love it but it was usable after countless hours of trying to get everything setup the way I could like it.

Guitar Center was having a sale on the brand new GT-100 which I watched the videos and listened to the demo's and then I went to try it out and walked out without it as I hated the 2 screens and how much they changed it from the 10. Not that long later they where having another trade in deal and a sale on the GT again so I thought what the hell I'll give it a try at home.
When I got it I hated it. None of the built in amps sounded anything like the ones in the GT-10. I thought " This board sucks badly and I can't use it at all ". I thought something was wrong with it as it sound terrible. Guitar center asked me if I would like another one as this one might be bad. So for the sheer hell of it I took home another one.
Boss Released this 2.0 upgrade so I did it and dug in again.

One thing I found was my amp was sounded pretty much how it does when I have pedals in the mix. I cleared out the first 4 patches and set them up with my amps pre for clean and then Drive 2 different settings. I was like "OK, I can work with this". I lost all ability to use the internal Model amps but I really don't care as I like my amp and love how it sounds. So I got to work and it's still apart of my rig today.

I got the GT-100 to work with my amp and everything I want to do and now I can really explore different effects which it has tons built in and move them around in the chain , place them exactly where I want and figure out what works and what doesn't then save it as a patch and recall it with one stomp.

Honestly dude this is the way to go for what you say you want. Versatility is important to most musicians unless they live in a certain box style and can really dig using pedals and have no use for all the things they offer. Nothing wrong with that as Pedals are amazingly cool and you can really explore all the wonderful things having the ability to buy , mix and match so many different brands is basically endless really. But if you want to dig in and have total control , I can't think of a better board then the Boss GT-100.

Now don't think I work for Boss or anything like that as I don't. Im just a older guitar player from the 70's who has been around this very block so many times and even today I still have the desire to get a full pedal board and play. But at the end of the day my GT-100 does everything and so much more then I'll ever need. Not to mention I factory in cost of building a pedal board again and it's not even close. Pedals can easily go right into the Thousands as you also need a pedal board and power management let alone all the different pedals. But thats something only you can find value in.

Good luck with your adventure I hope some of this helps. If you have any questions you can always PM me.
