Best Pedals for the $$$$$????

So now that I'm looking at getting a tube amp to replace my modelling amp I am going to need some pedals for my basic effects. What I'm looking at getting is a chorus, delay and perhaps an OD. My question is regarding which pedals are the best quality, both tonally and structurally, for the money?
I see there are several versions of both chorus and delay that BOSS carries. I would like to know which ones are better.
I play hard rock/metal, but a nice clean is important (hence a nice chorus pedal).

Re: Best Pedals for the $$$$$????

I like the Visual Sounds H2O for Chorus and the Vox Valvetone for Boost/OD duties. The Visual Sounds Route 66 is cool too, if you want a compressor with a Tubescreamer clone attached.

Re: Best Pedals for the $$$$$????

I'm a Boss junkie.

Boss [to me] makes great pedals with multiple applications. and if you don't like them you can always get 'em modded.

Re: Best Pedals for the $$$$$????

Another boss advocate... but there are some other companies that make great pedals too

Re: Best Pedals for the $$$$$????

another vote for the H2O, best chorus on the market IMO.

Re: Best Pedals for the $$$$$????

For $166, the Yamaha Magic Stomp is a sonic Swiss Army Knife (delay, reverb, pitch shift, flanging, chorus, ...) that's hard to beat.

Re: Best Pedals for the $$$$$????

I'd say for a cost effective great OD - from the opinions of many people on this forum you'd have to check out Stratdeluxer's pedals.

I use a G2D and a Maxon, both of which are reasonably expensive, so not really the best sound for $$$ thing you're after. But all of Stratdeluxers pedals seem to get rave reviews on this forum from guys who have enough money to buy any pedals they want.

Re: Best Pedals for the $$$$$????

Stratdeluxer is fine solution.

I think it these prices all units are really good, it's our ears that are different!

Voodoo Labs, Barber, Visual Sound (cool combos! for rather cheap!) are all great mid-priced manufacturers.

Custom ones like Keeley, AnalogMan and other are pricier, but all good.

And you have the pricier ones, Fulltone, Klon Centaur... which are really great, but a tad too pricey.

Re: Best Pedals for the $$$$$????

Another vote for the H2O. I've tried the CE-2 (modded and unmodded) as well as the NYC Small Clone, and the H2O is better, IMO. Kirk Hammet actually uses one himself.

Thanks guys...Even though I Like my modded pedals,I'm always looking for something different and I'm no different from everyone else...

I'm leaning towards a Fulltone pedal..Not sure which one? I Liked Lew's "69" Pedal when he played it for me over the phone, though that might be a bit limiting since it's a fuzz box? Maybe something like the "70" pedal or the Tone Bone British seems pretty cool also...

Thanks for the compliments guys..Appreciate that alot..Working hard at it and keeping the prices down low for all of you,my forum brothers..

Re: Best Pedals for the $$$$$????

Yet another vote for Visual Sounds' H2O for chorus & echo, but I'm not crazy about the Route 66 anymore. The overdrive side is fine and I really like the bass boost, but the compression side is noisey sometimes (even after sending it back to Bob).

The Boss DS-1 modded by John is the best deal out there IMHO. He also modded a TS-7 Tubescreamer for me - the regular overdrive is a pretty good version of the TS-808 after he tweaked it. The really cool part is that the "Hot" switch brings out a ripping overdrive/distortion that sounds great, especially in front of a solid state amp (sounded like pissed off hornets before).

Yeah, the ToneBone British is a pretty wicked and versatile pedal. I agree, John, I love mine, but they are pricey. The TS9 you modded for me gives me that classic rock tone I love. I've played it with many combos & it delivers consistently, but I guess overall I like the Boss line for quality, price & "modability". BTW, I have a Boss Super Chorus & I love it. Well there ya go, my 78 words of wisdom. :9:

Peace,

Hi Darrin...The Tone Bone British clips I've heard on Musician's Friend sound pretty good and yeah it is pricey @ $229...A Tube Screamer is pretty hard to beat, but it's also pretty limited...I'd like something close to my DS-1 but not quite as "boxey" sounding in the mids...Either that or I need to retweak the tone circuit in my own DS-1 and scoop the mids out a bit? Just don't have the time lately to do that...LOL

Re: Best Pedals for the $$$$$????

Chorus
- EHX Small Clone - Very deep and full sounding. It's like you're swimming in chrous.
- Visual Sounds H2O - Not my bag (not enough depth). If was looking for a good quality, more standard sounding chrous (as compared to the Small Clone) this would be it. A buddy of mine is selling his after I lent him my Small Clone for a week.

Delay
- Boss DD series - Pretty much the industry standard. Very good quality, can be sterile to some. I use a DD-20 and love it.
- DigiTech DigiDelay - For a digital delay, it's oddly warm sounding. Very good unit for the price.

Re: Best Pedals for the $$$$$????

a boss super overdrive is A LOT like a ts-9, you can tell if you look at schematics for them, but i doubt you want a tubescreamer

I really like the sound of proco rats in certain setups

a big muff mixed with a ds-1 or zakk wylde could have good results

modded boss os-2, well, depening on the mod it could be perfect or not hard enough

marshall guv'nor maybe
