i've got an LP thing that i want to use as a jazz guitar. kind of an Al DiMeola thing, if you will. what neck and bridge hummers would be ideal for a clean neck jazzy tone, and a good complement in the bridge - still jazzy but suitable for crunchy leads. one catch is that they GOTTA be gold, cuz the guitar is all black with gold hardware and i'm a stickler for consistency.

Something with vintage output:
59's or Seth Lovers were my first thoughts.
Or a set of Jazz humbuckers.
I don't think of Al Dimeola as having a classic jazz tone though...he has a rock tone if you ask me.
Dimeola used Dimarzios for most of his stuff with Chick Corea...a Super Distortion bridge pickup.

I will go for a set of alnico II humbuckers with a medium output. That means alnico pro II or seth lovers. If you want to go for something with a bigger output in the bridge consider the Custom Custom. Actually there is a combo that many people like which is APII/CC.

i've got another that i'm thinking of loading up with Pearly Gates or Alnico Pro II's
and this is #3
would the Gibson 57 Classic's be too much of a good thing for this lowly Korean wood?

I have Seths in one LP and '57 Classics in the other. I like both, but the Seths are warmer and more complex sounding. I'd pick the Seths over the '57s - they definitely meet your "jazzy but suitable for crunchy leads" criteria. They'll do jazz, blues and classic rock and sound great for all three.

see, i was gonna say a set of '59s ... but i too was thrown off about the 'al dimeloa' comment ... given what you already have in your other agiles, i'd say a set of 59s would give you good diversity

Seths are great, unpotted, made to very old fashioned specs. Vintage stuff all the way. Hard to screw that up.
Alnico 2 Pros are a bit more modern sounding, but they'll pull off the jazz thing as well.
Of course, the Jazz neck humbucker is a no-brainer.
Something to keep in mind, if you buy a new Duncan, you've got a 21 day No-Suck policy. If you don't like the tone, take it back to the store for an exchange. If they don't help you, call the Duncan company and they'll set up an exchange for you by mail. This is a US-Only policy.
