Re: Best reasonably priced semi-hollow

I would say take a hard look at the Epi Lucille. Much will depend on how loud and how much gain you play with. Semi Hollows are prone to howling due to the "hollow" chambers in them. This is ONLY a problem when you play with both High volume and High gain. It can be eliminated in a few ways. Use a Long enough chord to get far enough awaay from the Amp to avoid it, or Wax Pot the PUPS.

The Epi Lucille although it is a Semi Hollow guitar does not have "F" holes therfore the feedback issue are virtually non existant. The second reason these are real nice is if you plan on replacing the PUPS or Pots etc. They have a rear access cavity to get at all this. A Conventional Semi hollow guitar you have to work thru the "F" holes and that can really try your patience.

All very excellent points, that's why I put the Lucille in the poll seperately from the other Epi's (which should have included the Sheraton II btw :smack: ). I will give a Lucille a try if I see one. Thanks!

I intend to use this guitar mainly for clean and mild to moderate crunch tones (think Matchless Chieftain or an overdriven Bassman), but I'd also like to be able to get a good classic rock sound out of the thing. I'm not sure if this will cause feedback issues, but I am inclined to say no based on past experience.

As for trying my luck with the used market or EBay, I am always looking, but it is next to impossible to find a lefty semi-hollow on the used market. Lefty Gibson is out of the question - the used ones I've seen on EBay are going for $2k and up.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I will have to give these Washburns a try!

Re: Best reasonably priced semi-hollow

those ibanez semi hollows are awesome for the money. The epiphones I've played felt cheap.

I had an Artcore AS83 for a while, excellent bang for the buck there, I'd recommend them.
Ive played on 4 or 5 Artcores. Ime still amazed that a guitar that cheap can sound that good. In my opinion you would have to spend well over $1000 to hear a big differance in tone between an Artcore and the next better guitar. Bang for the buck they are great guitars.
