Best S-S-H Combo

Hi guys,

I currently have an Ibanez Roadstar II RG440. It's a basswood body, maple neck with rosewood fretboard guitar with edge bridge and S-S-H PU configuration.

The current PU i'm using is EMG SA and EMG 60 for the bridge. It's kinda sterlie sounding without any character of it's own

I'm thinking of putting in some duncans inside but donch know which one to put it. Which PU should i get for a warm and close to accoustic tone for neck and mid and a good solo tone for the bridge?

I'm also a lefty. Is there any limitations to the PU i can used?

Thanx -P

well, for bridge....... i think the Custom has the ebst solo tone.

for neck............. i dont have much experience with duncan neck single coils, but i'll say lil 59.

for middle............... i have no clue :D maybe a lil 59 again.

Do they have to all be humbucking? I prefer real single coils for the neck and middle of the Strat.

I like two SSL-1's or SSL-2's and a 59 Trembucker.

For a sweeter, more bell like tone: two APS1 or APS2 or Tex Hots and a 59 Trembucker.

I'm going to try a 78/EVH Trembucker with one of these combos as soon as it arrives from the Custom Shop.

But generally I like a alnico 5 bridge humbucker (like the 59 B or TB) in a Strat because it seems to have more bass response...and just sounds good!

i don't know about best...but i'm gonna put in a C5 and two texas hots antq's in my basswood strat project when the time comes...?!

Hmmz I'm playin a lefty guitar.

Will it post a problem when i use any humbucker?

Also they donch have single coils in lefty in S'pore haha

Can i settle for vintage flats or alnico pro 2 flats?

Will it be better?

My current idea is to have all Alnico pro 2 pu or all 59's

What do u think -P

No problem with a humbucker...just adjust the polepieces any way that sounds best to you.

As for single coils, you might prefer them flat if you're a lefty.

coolz manz...

Now i will just need to wait for the year end sale before buying the PUs -P

So which one do u think is the most versatile combo?

all Alnico Pro 2s

All 59s

vintage Flats with C5

Alnico pro 2 with C5

=P

I have an a2p flat in my moore...i like it alright, not glass though... but if you want something with character and more of a vintage sound...the antiquites are the way to go...i guess it just depends on what sound your looking for...!?

I think I prefer a5 magnets in a Strat: more bass, clearer mids and bright chimey highs.

But a2 sounds just fine too...just not as "classic" and glassy a Strat tone as the pickups from the 50's and 60's.

I'm going to load my 2nd Strat with Dist-TB(bridge), Classic Stack(middle) and HotRails(neck). :headbang: I always wanted shredder strat... should look like this

:firedevil

thats a nice shredder axe!

Thames,

I love your strat. Love the paint. Puts me in mind of a maneating shark for some reason. You need to name it "The Shark" or "Maneater" or something.

Where'd the paint job come from?

:p Yeah... you're right, but that was the only pickup available with a flat plain cover... the ClassicStack I have is an old one from the 80s with a plain SD cover, with the big "S" logo engraved on top.. pretty rare and unusual... fyi, I have 2 HotStacks for sale with those cover... check the Trading post...

I was thinking Strateater..

It's not a paint job, but a Fotoflame strat...this is how it looks in the real world...
