Re: Best shredder

The FBI says otherwise.

Incorrect. Sweeps are not a requirement.
Shredding is not defined as the mimicry of the sound of a machine that turns sheets of paper into strips of paper. It is defined as playing with a high rate of speed AND articulation primarily with the fretting hand.

The fact that he CAN pick all his notes at speed makes him a shredder.

Naah...the bar has been lower since the late 90s to allow more people to 'earn' that 'virtuoso' status. Just look at the options in this poll, SRV?!!! WTF???!!!

Where are Michael Lee Firkins, Darren Housholder, Shawn Lane, Tony McAlpine, you know....the rest of Shrapnel guys....lol.

Re: Best shredder

Yngwie Malmsteen for too many reasons I don't feel like writing down. lol

Mind you, I "hate" shred music. So, it's saying something that I'd pick him.

Re: Best shredder

Marty in "heavy mode" (cacophony, megadeth, his and Jason's solo stuff) is some of my favorite shred ever.

Re: Best shredder

You know who really gets underrated? Chris Impellitteri man that dude hammers.

Re: Best shredder

Why doesn't it count? It's extremely complex rythmically and it sounds good. What other conditions could there possibly be? Anyways I wasn't saying the pianist and bassist were the best I was just putting it out there.

I had his first album. Dude is definitely a technical genius, but has absolutely no musical ability.

While we're leaving people off, where's Roy Clark? Where's Michaelangelo and his 4-neck guitar? Where's Danny Spitz? Where's Janick Gers? The list goes on, despite forum software limits.

And no, SRV was not a "shredder" in the context of this list (Yngwie, Friedman, etc).

Re: Best shredder

He has heaps of great songs that aren't all shred.

I used this one as my wedding song.

Re: Best shredder

Does armik count?

Do you understand what rhythm is? There is a difference between rhythm and presentation. Just because the band is dressed up like transvestites doesn't mean they're playing faster rhythms than a dude in a suit. Anyways that last one you posted was actually quite shreddy. I give it a thumbs up.

Re: Best shredder

All that knowledge based off one album?

Musically he is good but to know this you need to listen to more than the first album

I couldn't bring myself to do that at the time. Kinda like trying to force myself to listen to Slayer's first one. I have tried and tried over the years, and I just don't see how they went anywhere.
