Best Tube Combo For $1900

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

Oh come on people, the dude has the best post/per purchase ratio, look at me over 2600 posts in two years, and what do I have to show for it? Laney AOR and MassLite, BORING !at leas the dude brought life back to this place, with him all we would have is Rid's techno clips.

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

Another hour, another BB post...

first up, go secondhand, your money will stretch much further, and someone else will have taken the resale value hit for you.

I'm guessing here, but that kind of money should get you a used Bogner Shiva el34. Possibly not quite enough gain for you, but a Shiva and an od pedal for solo boosts will make you forget you ever owned a JVM.

Also check around and see if there are any used 5150 3 heads coming onto the market.

Better yet, stop posting hourly on here and get your arse to a decent shop to try some amps out. More than one amp, maybe everything they have, at the volumes you are going to use them at. Nothing beats actually using amps to find out if they suit.

if you can't do that, I suggest looking on youtube (particularly if it's a boutique amp, your local store may not have one). There are lots of great clips of amps over on The Gear Page, so go there and have a listen. Also poke around the The Gear Page's emporium. There's always someone offloading some amazing amp for a reasonable price on there.

Just don't try posting constant basic amp questions over there. They're less tolerant than the nice folk on here...

why do you always have crap to say? even if you're helpful you've got to include crap too. you don't know jack about me and who cares what you think about my posts really.

if people didn't like my posts and they were as worthless as you say, no one would respond. maybe it doesn't fit YOUR criteria for a good post, but this is something i'm interested in and i don't give a dam if you like it or not. if i want to buy 30 friggin amps every year, that's my business. i don't go police what the hell you do with your life, your gear or your posts, so why the hell do you have to go policing mine?

ah, i get it. you're probably one of those guys who can't let things go. we probably butted heads some time back in some thread and you just can't seem to let it go. yeah, it sounds like you're one of those kinds of people. i know there are a few like you around here. say what you want, but i don't act like that.

i think you would be a lot cooler if you let go of that extra crap and just contributed or ignored stuff you're not interested in. maybe i like buying and selling equipment. maybe i know how to manage my money. maybe it's exciting to learn everything i'm learning now. hell, i went to college and have been earning my own money since i was 15. i don't need anyone lecturing me on how to manage my friggin money. give me a friggin break.

i'd like to come to this forum and ask some questions and discuss things for relaxation and enjoyment. i really don't want to listen to some "i told you so" kind of guy or something. just give me a friggin break already.

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

bb I think you are the one blowing this out of proportion with that post.

ANYHOW.. I think after seeing people recommend the Bogner Shiva, I may add that one along side the Mark IV. I love every sound those things create, possibly more so than the Mark IV.

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

Best combo fpr 1900$ would be an Engl Sovereign 100 for me, either 1x12 or 2x12 but it's 100W and seriously loud.

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

Never played one, but I'm particularly interested in the Suhr Badger 18 1x12 Combo... its power scaling feature is somewhat pertinent in your plight for tone.

If you went and tracked one down and gave it a spin, you might find something you like. You'd also be able to tell ME if it's suitable for the music that I dig, since we share very similar tastes. :D

I'm with you on this amp. Check out this review of the head version...

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

Hey barbarianbrute..

I am not going to pick an amp that I would consider best, I would like to give you an idea. I don't know where you live, so I can't refer you to a certain store, but here is the idea....

Go to a nice customer friendly (not GC) music store that carries most of the higher end amps, ask if the have a seperate room where you can try several at a volume that will allow you to make a decent decision. If you live close to my neck of the woods (St. Louis) it would be Eddies....you can find them on the web.

If you can find a store like that you could avoid a lot of pratfalls of amp selection.

Happy hunting and good luck.

You are for real, right? -this whole thing isn't some genius satirical parody of internet forum conversation?

i know, the reality is you're probably a real guy, and as such I should really leave you alone now. Especially seeing as I'm the only one having fun, if the quoted post above is anything to go by.

For what it's worth, I've really enjoyed contributing to your amp threads. I really should know better, but somehow I've been sucked into these threads like a bad soap opera. Despite this, I've honestly found this whole process amusing, entertaining and a challenge (in a 'how do I re-word this for a fourth time, so it finally sinks in?' kind of way).

And besides, I've given you about all the good advice I can give. GJ is dead on: you'll figure it all out for yourself. The last thing you need right now is some smartarse like me trying to give you sensible, experience-based advice on how to get to where you want to be quicker. After all, if you had it all figured out tomorrow there would be nothing to post about, right? and where's the fun in that?

As a famous entertainer once said:

"One break, Coming up!"

Ok, i am tired of VH re-union already, Hot_Grits is quoting DLR what's next?

Re: Best Tube Combo For $1900

Ok, i am tired of VH re-union already, Hot_Grits is quoting DLR what's next?

More DLR quotes:

* I'm a family-oriented guy. I've personally started four or five this year already.

* Money can't buy you happiness, but it can buy you a yacht big enough to pull up right alongside it.

* I used to jog, but the ice cubes kept falling out of my glass.

* After all these years of bright lights, I still don't need glasses--I drink straight from the bottle.

* The perfect woman has an IQ of 150, wants to make love until 4 in the morning, and then turns into a pizza.

* I won't go down in history, but I will go down on your sister!

* Hey, hey! Don't squirt water at me pal! I'm gonna **** your girlfriend! [On stage - Us Festival 1983] (THE BEST QUOTE!)

* I used to have a drug problem, but now I make enough money so that it's not a problem anymore.

* If you put a Van Halen album in your record collection it will melt all the rest of your records. [MTV interview quote ~1981]

* I don't get all the women that I want--I get all the women that want me.

* Young musicians are always coming up to me and asking 'how do you know when you've made it?' When you can spell 'subpoena' without thinking about it, that's when you know you've made it.

* It's not who wants to sleep with you; it's who wants to sleep with you again.

* Some people say that life is a cesspool of darkness and despair. Well, we in Van Halen are sailing through it on a yacht.

* I think people want balance more than ever. You know, feed an Ethiopian, plant the rain forest, save the ozone layer--you gotta have that, "oh woe is me," as a form of self-dramatization; it's always fun. It shouldn't be replaced, but there should be a balance. Sooner or later, it's Miller time! Sooner or later, there is some hallelujah, watusi-tailgate, light-up-the-god****-sky-it's-finally-the-weekend! And I don't care whether you wear a cowboy hat or your hair is purple, I don't care if you have a wedding ring or a clit ring, sooner or later, there's Miller time! That doesn't mean simple belly laughs, and it doesn't mean high-brow. It just means, 'wanna go have a drink?'

* DLR Band means Dave, Lowery, and Ray. I named it that because it sounds more like a band than David Lee Roth, which just sounds like a person. When you hear David Lee Roth - you think of a person. When you hear DLR Band - you think of a band. Just like when you hear Eddie Van Halen you think of a person, and when you hear Van Halen - you think of David Lee Roth!

* Between my Huck Finn existence running barefoot thru the great outdoors and having the best seat in the house for arguably the most important decade in the history of pop music, I had a formidable education.

* I simply have to be creative all the time. I have to create new things. I never have writers block. You wanna figure out something to shoot? This is not an issue. You want some lyrics? This is not a problem. All of the ideas are constant. If nothing else, I am aware of what's going on around me. I always feel like I'm missing something unless I stay completely applied.

* ...Art is struggle. I love the struggle more than ever before. It's about dangerous waves of consequence. If there's no conflict I seem to create it, doc. Once something is stabilized, go bigger. We aren't innocents but we are abroad.

* A banker will take a guitar and play three notes on it. A rock star will take a guitar and throw it across the room.

* People come out of our concerts and feel invincible. They feel like a building could fall on them, nothing would happen. They feel like a car could hit them, nothing would happen. Frequently cars do hit them.

* When I die, sprinkle my ashes over the 80's.
* To me, it's not rocket surgery. It's very simple to put together. [About a possible Van Halen reunion]

* "Hey, your girlfriend was partying with us backstage before the show, and she had a message for ya: 'mmfp mmf umf fmff mmm.'"

* I support same-sex marriages as long as both chicks are hot!

* Call me retro, I'm still hetero!

* ProTools is not an instrument!

* We call our selves the Fabulous Picasso brothers because Picasso represents fine art... and brothers..makes it sound like pizza delivery...

You might have to join The Gear Page. It's a red fender Prosonic 2x10. Really great amp.

that's a kick ass amp, but i want to buy something new with a full warranty (i'm not an amp tech). i don't like buying used, never have had good luck buying used, and i don't think i ever will. besides, i like breaking in a new amp.
