Best Univibe pedal?

Re: Best Univibe pedal?

my favorite is the fulltone deja vibe (either version just depends if you want the expression pedal or a knob) none other that I have found has been as nice

if on a budget the Voodoo Lab Micro Vibe, BBE Soul Vibe, Lovepedal Picklevibe, and surprisingly the Hardwire TR-7 aren't bad places to look.

Re: Best Univibe pedal?

The best I've heard is the KR Megavibe. I'm not sure if they're still available, they were hard to get at the best of times. Sounds great though.

Here's a clip I did with it and the Gypsy Fuzz together...Trower's Bridge of Sighs

Nice demo. That fuzz is really thick. The KR Musical Products website is still up, but it appears that they've removed all contact info.

Re: Best Univibe pedal?

Dealing with KR is a dangerous thing so if you are brave and wish to try be very careful.

Great vibes...

The Aqua Vibe is really great but there is a wait list.

Sweetsound is making vibe pedals again, those are really good too.

Castledyne has a vibe now but there is a wait and with the exchange rate they are rather costly

Prescription has been making their Vibe Unit for years and they are good as well.

All this said as much as I dislike Fulltone stuff the Deja Vibe is great, solid built, sounds amazing and can be had with no wait and at a great price.

If you don't want all the features the Voodoo Lab Microvibe is also killer

I have a Mini Deja Vibe I bought to hold myself over until my Aqua Vibe was done, name came up on the list years ago and I never even got it, borrowed a Mojovibe and liked the Deja better...Fuller just hit it out of the park with the Deja!

Re: Best Univibe pedal?

i use a fulltone deja vibe. I dont know what else out there matches it really, but i have to admit i have not tried any others either.

Re: Best Univibe pedal?

Hey - while on this topic, any recommendations for a "Vibe as an alternative to chorus" pedal?

For interesting modulation that isn't Chorus, I suggest the Red Witch Moon Phaser. One of its modes combines vibrato and phase. Designed to recreate David Gilmour TDSOTM textures, I find it handy for plenty of other things.

Apart from anything else, it stops me overusing my beloved Roland/Boss Dimension Chorus.

What do you mean?

Vibe is really just a different thing, in a cover music context I don't see the 2 as interchangeable however if you're writing music use which ever form of modulation you want.

Re: Best Univibe pedal?

What is it exactly that people want from a "Uni-Vibe"?. Are they looking to get close to the sound of an old vintage Univibe, or just to get a rotating speaker Leslie effect?
I plugged in my Ibanez Classic Flange, ( or my Classic Phaser, forgot which at the moment) and quite honestly it sounds so good don't see myself needing another rotating speaker effect besides a real Leslie of Course.
I remember I had the Vodoo labs Univibe 'clone', and I like the Ibby pedal better for sure!
(Why do a feel a TGWIF shakedown is coming?)

The original intention of the Univibe was to emulate a Leslie type effect, but it wasn't particularly successful at it. It did, however, end up creating a new effect of its own, made popular by the likes of Hendrix, Robin Trower and David Gilmour. It would have been your phaser that reminded you of this sound, because there is phasing at work in a Univibe circuit, even though a good one is a distinct sound to the classic phaser effect. While it doesn't sound like a Leslie, it does have a 'throb' that is missing from a standard phaser.

Re: Best Univibe pedal?

Guys have been trying to reproduce the sound of a Leslie speaker cab w/o a real speaker cab for decades...the Univibe was one such attempt however like almost all others it failed, however like Geoff pointed out it created another usable and very unique sound.

Over the years a lot of guys have used a lot of different things to try and fake a Leslie...chorus pedals, flangers, phasers, etc all have been used and depending on the pedal being used and the settings the user dialed up the effects vary...to me nothing sounds worse than a guy with a chorus pedal run in mono with the controls jacked up swearing he's nailing the sound of a Leslie cab...all I can ever think is that the person in question has never heard a real Leslie!

There are some good Leslie sims out there these days (Rotosphere, Ventilator, G4 etc...) and some great Uni Vibes as well but to me they are not interchangeable.
