Bigsby worth it or not

Re: Bigsby worth it or not

^Good info. Itsabass has a good point that using a Bigsby with no retainer would probably allow better break angle and clearance than either the 'F' or B5 . The B16 has none after all. In fact from the above pictures, it looks like it would be more difficult (vs. a B5) to adjust an 'F' Bigsby to not drag on the rear part of the bridge, even if it does provide you with greater break angle.

Thanks. Just to reiterate and expound on my above suggestion for anyone who might want to try it, you *need* to introduce a significant neck angle for this to work. Needs to be akin to an SG or the like, not typical Fender shim angles. I would definitely use a form fitting full-pocket shim, not the typical short shim used on bolt necks. A maple wedge with any angle you want can be cut on a table saw with a fair amount of ease.

Re: Bigsby worth it or not

It's been a zillion years since I used a Bigsby. At the time, I was a drop-tuning Floyd metal guy. Now, I keep my Strat bridge floating for subtle stuff. I bet I'd like one now.

What could you add- a locking mechanism? Ball bearings? An adjustable polymer spring?

I don't know, as I am not an engineer. But Leo didn't foresee all the variations on his design. It just seems big and clumsy for what it does.

Re: Bigsby worth it or not

This has all ready gone bad I tried to delete the post but nothing . I noticed I wrote the title then the phone fell and posted . I wanted to know what their first bigsby was and if they thought it was worth it . See I’m building a thinline tele and I got a bigsby for it . I’ve never used one before so pro and cons would be nice to hear . Even if I never use it I’m not taking it off lol.
