Billy Corgan Strat played and rejected.

Re: Billy Corgan Strat played and rejected.

I dont see dave mustaine, kirk hammet, marcus miller, charles mingus etc etc etc... using anything but their own instuments.

You should take the bucket off your head and look harder:
Dave Kilminster is using Richie Kotzen's Tele and amps on tour with Roger Waters. He sounds better using them then RK does.
I've seen John Frusciante with the SRV Strat and the Charvel EVH model.
A lot of guys use the Steve Vai signature model (without trying to play like him).

And of course - so many players have used the Peavey Wolfgang and 5150 in the 90's and early 00's. Steve Morse has done wonders with this amp playing for Deep Purple.

The list can go on and on. Good players play whatever feels right in their hands.

Re: Billy Corgan Strat played and rejected.

I use 12's almost exclusively on bass. I used to have an Aguilar GS212, and now I have a Bergantino HT212. Both are amazing 2-12 bass cabinets. Speaker size is only one small part of the sound equation.

I played a wicked-sounding bass amp with an 8 inch speaker at GC. Trying to remember the brand name... but it sounded amazingly full for an 8 in, moreso than the 12 in. Fender I used to gig with! Of course the 8 in was about 800 dollars, so there must be some rad tech. going on there. Wasn't a standard brand that's for sure.

I'll break it down like this. When you buy any sig model your are now using whats right for you.
The said person is using the tool that is right for somebody else.
This biased makes you belive this is right for you.

Wow. You're really wrong.

I play a J Mascis signature Jazzmaster because I like it. Not because of the name on the headstock. Obviously Mr Mascis and I enjoy the same thing in a guitar.

Re: Billy Corgan Strat played and rejected.

Anyone who plays a Les Paul has a signature guitar! I ONLY find it cheesy to use a signature item and try and sound like the signature artist and FAIL at it! I used a 5150 for years AND a EVH phase 90... and I don't sound any thing like VH or do I want to... he77 I use the phaser maxed out 90% of the time!
