I've been GASing and drooling for the past few days... I really want a Tele (it will probably take a year or two until I can afford a good one, 3-4 years according to my wife).

So in the meanwhile - just a little poll. Do you think that Teles look better with binding, double binding, or do you just like the classic plain look?

Edit:
Post pictures to strengthen your point... and my GAS. :D

Re: Binding on Telecasters

The double edge binding of Fender Custom Telecasters and Custom Esquires lends them something of a classic Gibson look. From a distance, single edge binding gives off pretty much the same visual impression. Putting my mouth where my money is, I have to vote in favour of plain vanilla, oops, make that Butterscotch. (I'm a blackguard/blond(e) kinda guy.)

Re: Binding on Telecasters

Binding is good, more binding is better. Although my vote was contrary to that logic - I said single binding because two of my best guitars ever (Schecter PTs) had bound tops.

On the other hand, Andy Summers' Custom was double bound....

Re: Binding on Telecasters

I'm conflicted -- I like the look of binding, but I think I prefer a radiused edge.

BTW -- I'm sure you know -- I didn't until recently -- one of the best custom builders is Gil Yaron, who lives in Petach Tikvah.

Not a Tele I know, but it should help your GAS along nicely. :friday:

Re: Binding on Telecasters

I love Teles with double binding. It give them a real classy look. It is also a + that they are not common.

:eyecrazy:
First time I hear about him... made a web search - there's nothing about him on local websites. I got the impression from his website that he's pretty expensive.

Re: Binding on Telecasters

i love any teles with binding... single and double... i love the single Shecter PT style and the Fender double Custom style bindings...

the new Squier Vintage Vibe tele with double binding is pretty darn cool!

Re: Binding on Telecasters

IMHO, any tele will do. If you do a have a choice, double binding wins hands down.

For your gas consideration....... and mine :D

Re: Binding on Telecasters

^^ I read that Albert Collins added the binding to his Tele after he bought it.

Tom Anderson gets what I'm talking about, I don't believe you can add anything to those guitars to make them fancier:

Re: Binding on Telecasters

On the other hand, double binding goes a very long way, and I'm surprised no one has mentioned this one yet:

This might be the best looking guitar on this forum. I'm really surprised that Fender are insisting on "vintage correct" finishes when it's so easy to turn a Tele into such an elegant beast...

Re: Binding on Telecasters

I like the looks of single and double bound Teles, but I also really like them without binding, hence my decision is no binding. My favourite Tele look is a honey blond blackguard with a Maple neck.

Re: Binding on Telecasters

I vote for double binding w/ a black bound maple fretboard... is there such thing ? (sorry I don't play or know much about fenders, unless it's a jazz bass)

muttz - Nice dimebucker !

Yup, this is definitely the best looking guitar on the forum.
