Re: Bixonic Expandora

Strangely enough I saw my Expandora sitting in a box when I was storing some other pedals today. I haven't played through it for a while, but as I recall it was quite versatile with the internal dip switches, from a smooth overdrive right through to a fairly hard distortion, similar in many ways to an MXR Distortion +. The one I have is the first generation type, and I used it live for a year or so before moving on to whatever came next! Good sounding pedal in a Japanese land mine case!

I used to read that the 1st generation of these pedals lacked bass? True?

There's definitely a leaning towards the mids, and the low end stays fairly neutral. At higher volumes it makes for a very controllable distortion. At lower volumes it does lack "thump."

Re: Bixonic Expandora

I have one of the first one (EXP-2001) and use it on a regular basis. Like most distortion pedals out there it does lack a tad of bass but it's not a big enough issue to make it be a problem. There are 3 modes made possible with the dip switches (the second issue does not have the dip switches...the 3 settings are made available via the 4th knob). It's more of an overdrive than anything else, not a terrible amount of gain to be had in any of the 3 modes, fair amount of volume to be had (I always have my volume at less than half) and a tone control with a fairly wide range.
