BK Nail Bombs... Suhr Aldrich set... Thoughts??

Im looking for something different than what I usually use. Most commonly, I use Duncan Custom8s. I have axes loaded with a JB, WLH set, Hybrid, c5. And prolly going to get a BW set for my Charvel. And a Rio BBQ. Oh, and I do have a set of Rebel Yells in an LP..

I have a short scale mahog body/neck superstrat another mahog body/neck guitar and an EPI LP Im looking for pups for.
I do have a Suhr Aldrich bridge pup that Id like to use, but not sure what to pair it with in the neck, and not sure which of those guits to put it in.

So, thinking of either a Suhr Aldrich neck to go with the Aldrich bridge, but I think Ive heard it can be a bit "much", even tho Doug has great tone.. I think Keeper uses a diff Suhr pup that he loves..

Anyhow, any guidance of:
What neck pup to pair with a Suhr Aldrich ?
Which guit to put that set in?
Thoughts on BK Nail Bomb?
Or other BK or interesting somewhat hot pup to try? (Ive never had much luck with liking Dimarzios, except the tone zone, but am curious about the Liquifier and Crunchlab.)

Other suggestions?? Thanks

Re: BK Nail Bombs... Suhr Aldrich set... Thoughts??

The Aldrich came off as a bit thick sounding to me, especially when compared to how's it's described and the tone he is known to have. Yes, I also tried it in bright guitars. I otherwise wanted to like it. People say it's the next step past the SSH+, yet when I tried that one, it was way bright. haha!

I have a NB set in a particularly bright guitar. It has the alnico bridge. I went with that set on purpose for that guitar because it's bright and based on previous experience with BKPs. It ended up being a really good fit for my goals. In a different guitar, I might expect them to also have a bit of girth to them.

If you're going to use a BK neck pickup, try the Cold Sweat. I have that paired with a BK Nail Bomb (b) in my Koa body bolt-on Charvel and they are very nice!

However, perhaps my favorite neck pickup of all is the Dimarzio Air Norton. The Dimarzio Blaze II (n) is right up there with it, although for 7 strings only of course...

really? Im just always nervous buying dimarzios as most having disappointed me. Ironically, the one I was given, I love!! Satch track...

Im pretty sure Id like to pair the Aldrich with another suhr... But I don't think the Aldrich neck is what I want...

If you're looking for a Suhr humbucker that's a little stronger than vintage, the Thornbucker Plus might be a viable choice. I don't have any Thornbuckers yet so I can't offer a review tonewise but they have a great reputation. I have a DSH bridge that's strong but even when it's ripping it displays a certain hi-fi clarity that's unusual in a hotter humbucker. Good marks for transparency yet I'm hoping the Thornbuckers will feel a bit more organic.

SSV bridge model might be another good option for your neck position. I expect this would have the same type of hi-fi vibe that I notice in my DSH and which Suhr humbuckers in general have become known for. Not sure how different the wind on that one is from the Aldrich neck; I believe they're both A5 and have similar DCRs. They may be very distinct from each other though.

You mention you have a RioGrande BBQ; its companion Texas neck is a really responsive pickup that has vintage fingertouch with a bit more heat and girth and attitude than PAF types. I love mine and IMO it might be a good match for the Aldrich if the guitar in question is bright or neutral in character. Maybe less appropriate for a dark sounding short scale axe though.

One other idea to toss out: I've become a big, big fan of the Screamin Demon as a neck pickup to pair with a powerful bridge.

Conversely, Almost all the DiMarzios I've tried have worked out very well. Plus, I've not had any hassles getting through to tech support to bounce ideas off their head to make sure of what I'm considering. And they have an exchange policy. AND they have double cream!

If you like the Satch Track, have you checked out the PAF Joe for the neck. The Mo Joe is also really cool. Most the Satch models seem to try to bridge the gap between classic and modern.

Thanks for the info !! Not well versed in the other Rios, so may have to check that out.. Only one Ive tried is the BBQ. They made me a bbq on a flat base that I have in my Michael Kelly.

As far as Dimarzios, good info on the other Joe Sat models.. Again, haven't tried too many diff ones as the experiences Ive had have not been stellar..

Yeah, keep hearing great things about the Demon in the neck.. May have to give one a whirl..
