Black Winter

Re: Black Winter

Almost what it sounds like to me! Haha! If he thinks they might be similar.....cool. Implying that his custom shop pickup "Is SO good they made it into the Black Winter" well.....that is kind of arrogant.

From reading all the threads: The Black Winter is a slightly modified DD with triple ceramic mags. The Tyrannotitan is a modified DD with different wire, one ceramic and double screws. Fair amount of difference there.

Arrogant? I am convinced of it, and I never said the TT has different wire from a DD, ever, rather I have always said that I don't know and that I am only guessing, and that MJ's specs says "sh6 wind" but there is more to this than just the wind. You also have to understand that it maybe a design that the custom shop has had for a long time, maybe even come from a DD prototype, like the Super V was a JB prototype, and that when I asked MJ for the specs I requested she said "I can make you a pickup very close to those specs and it will be a great pickup". I have kept my emails to her. I see the Black Winter as the final evolution from what the Tyrannotitan was.

I'm sure that when SD considers a pickup design to become a production model they keep refining a design till it reaches its best. My mate has ordered a Black Winter and I will make a video playing the Tyrannotitan in my two V's and his soloist withe the BW. My prediction is that the triple ceramic mags will show the BW has a little more output than the TT and little less highs and a tighter low end, but at the core they will sound very alike but not identical. Then you will also hear it next to a DD in both my Gibson explorer and my mates mockingbird. There will be a range of guitars and we will be cranking them in Marshall TSL's and JVM, and also an ENGL.

Re: Black Winter

Dark Order, you have a custom shop pickup based on the Duncan Distortion wind. The Black Winter is similar to the Duncan Distortion wind. That does not mean that the Black Winter is based on your custom shop pickup. It just means that your custom shop pickup has some similarities to the Black Winter by way of sharing in the Duncan Distortion design points.

P.S. tyranotitan is a silly name. :P

Fair enough bro. Thanks for posting your reasoning; I was just commenting based on what I have seen in the previous threads. I think all of us get a little caught up sometimes on minutiae and forget what really matters. MJ has wound you a couple really awesome TT's and you love them....THAT is the main thing! Also looking forward to a demo of all 3 when you get the chance! Cheers.
