Blackened

Re: Blackened

Ok, the drum track is uploaded to my soundclick site.
If you record on it, please post to this thread. I would like to hear it.
Especially if you record with a POD.

By the way, that was the spinal puppet model. I'm gonna try to redo the song without the flanger. maybe add a screamer or vetta juice.

Re: Blackened

spinal puppet yes!!!

that one was nice.. you had to tweak the hell out of pretty much all the pedals and stuff to get it sound killer

Re: Blackened

oh yea... if you dont have EMG's, you wont cut it for the justice rythm sound. it's tighter than a virgin

Re: Blackened

Nice. The guitar tone is certainly alot less grainy than mine.
The triple rec model on the potxt is thin and does not have enough gain available. the guitarport sounds quite good though. What effects (if any) are you using (compression,eq, etc)?

Do you guys think I should do the whole song?
(Kirk's leads are a bitch.)

Re: Blackened

Cool versions guys. It's defenatley interstesting to hear different styles come through on this tune.

Suislid's version, the backing track made me think a little of Ringo and the beatles (mind you, that's if Ringo started playing double kick). The hit hat beat was too 4/4 without Urlich's backbeat/generally messing with the timing.

bigheadood's version has a looser right hand, but is able to capture how hetfield pretty much fit's into the pocket with lars. The backing track's chorus sounds a bit crappy, so I'd just play through without waiting @ 1:06-1:08 and play just a fraction ahead of the beat.

Work on it, cause It's a modern day classic. I'd hit the mosh pit if I heard one of the local bands doing it as well!!!:D

tone is awesome suislide
Big +1. Captures the vibe really well, right down to the "kick drum mallet hitting a paper bag" tone. :laugh2:

the thing is.. if you try and use every amp model on its own, it's going to suck MASSIVELY. the marshall/soldano/mesa/whatever models are NOT even CLOSE to the real deal

you have to use some compression, some tube screamer, a tiny touch of delay, maybe a chorus to get something good out of it.

so, if you try and put only the amp to use, the tone is going to suck majorly

Re: Blackened

Thing is, ive had this guitarport for 2 and a half years now. I got it about 5 months after i started playing guitar. Its taken a very long time to fine tune these tones.. the line6 stuff isnt that great, but you really have to take time to figure out what works and what doesnt. Sadly, alot of it doesnt work. I have found the treadplate to be the best model, and most versatile. The cleans are good with the ac30 and the blackface fender model.

On the tone I used, i use a bit of mids with the treble and presence around 4. I also use the tubescreamer for every gain tone because without it, every amp basically has built in fuzz. EQ on top of that, and a little compression. Thats it!

Re: Blackened

For the very reasons you just stated is why I prefer micing up my little practice amp. I know it'll sound good with minimal tweaking. ;)

I think the PODs are cool and stuff, but I just can't see myself sitting there for hours on end tweaking the settings just to get a sound I like.

yes..

yes...

and yes.

although i dont agree on the treadplate.. i used stuff all over. it did sound killer when tweaked properly though

Re: Blackened

Well there is also another point to make about this. When i first bought it, i thought it sounded bad ass no matter what i did. My ears didnt really know tone at first, so as i got better with the program the tones got a little better every time, and i was happy. Had i bought it yesterday, that may be a different story..

Re: Blackened

I bought my pod because it had great clean and mildly distorted tones in it, plus the effects are pretty good. It sounds best in the loop of my peavey ultra 212 with all of the modeling turned off. But, I don't have a good microphone setup to record that, so, modeling works. Kind of.

Re: Blackened

modeling is THE way to go for home only recording. let noone tell you any diferent
