Anybody has a schimatic of a signal chain/set up Sir Blackmore had during the Dio period of a Rainbow? That tone on "Catch the Rainbow" leaves in AWE evertime.

WhoFan said:I think it;s the same setup he had in the last days of Purple.... Scalloped neck strats, Awia Tape Deck used as a preamp, into Boosted Marshalls....
Dr.Mavashi said:Awia tape deck? what's that
mind_transplant said:Ah the younger generation. It's an old cassette player.
Blackmore had a tape deck that was modified to boost the signal from his guitar so it hit the preamp harder, for a certain tone and added distortion. The amplifiers were Marshall Majors, which were 200 Watt amps, I don't know if they were stock or tweaked.
Dr.Mavashi said:So, you mean to tell me that gentle, singing tone on "Catch the Rainbow" are 200W Marshals?
As far as Awia tape deck, didn't EVH used something similar too?
Trilogy said:I always understood that his Marshall Majors were boosted to FIVE hundred watts, and he used a treble booster. I've read that in a few different sources.
And yes, that tone on 'Catch The Rainbow' is a Major, and some type of chorus, :smokin:
(I'm listening to 'Catch' off of 'Live in Germany'. KILLER swirly tones) :yes11:
For other KILLER Blackmore playing/clean tones, check out:
'Rainbow Eyes' off of 'Long Live Rock & Roll.'
Blackmore is one of my favorites :notworthy:cool2::notworthy
