Blackout Modular Preamp

Re: Blackout Modular Preamp

Anyone tried it with a Full Shred, that's what i plan on doing also can you still run onboard stuff like the EMG PA-2 or Duncan Firestorm while using the modualar preamp?

Re: Blackout Modular Preamp

I just installed it with a Custom bridge and
a '59 neck and it sounds awesome. IIRC
the Custom and Full Shred are both around 14k
so it might be quite good!

Cool, how does it sound, do you notice a big difference compared to the standard custom sound?

Re: Blackout Modular Preamp

The tone is great. I do notice a slight difference
but that's because I'm not using the coil pack with it
I also noticed less gain than with the OG Blackouts
but it's only slight.

Re: Blackout Modular Preamp

I was wondering about the gain cause in some of my other guitar i use a booster like the EMG PA-2 for lead stuff & i have a little 15dB boost wired in all the time with my Ibanez loaded with Livewire Classics so does the Blackout preamp provide a lot more gain?

Re: Blackout Modular Preamp

You could turn it off but you get a very low volume thin signal. You'd have to bypass it completely to get an active/passive setup.

What about some kind of stacked potentiometer (handles the volume for the passive and tone for both active and passive)?

Of course there would need to be a way to switch between the two...

Re: Blackout Modular Preamp

Just fitted it with a Distortion(b)& Hot Rails(n) combo & i love it. I used to use an EMG PA-2 in this guitar which was great for leads but to mushy for rhythm but with the BMP there is plenty of juice & the riffs are tight & clear. I like how i can still here every string in full chords too.:cool2:

Re: Blackout Modular Preamp

So even with a high gain pickup, it still sounds clear?
Fantastic! I'm glad it worked for you although I'm not surprised!

Nice, post some sound clips with that setup ;-)

Re: Blackout Modular Preamp

Does any body know weather I need a standard or short shaft length to fit the BMP-1 to a PRS CE24?
:friday:

Re: Blackout Modular Preamp

I`d assume its the regular Shaft. I`m not aware of any PRSs using long shafts like Gibsons do!

Re: Blackout Modular Preamp

Cheers, also does any body have a wiring set up for a PRS as the pickups go into the rotary switch before the volume pot but all the wiring diagrams I can find on the Seymour Duncan site have the pickups going into the BMP-1 first. Should I take the output of the rotary switch and treat it as a single pickup?

Re: Blackout Modular Preamp

Blackpout was based on a Jazz bridge???? Very very interesting....

Jolly needs to check this thread out!
