Blackstar Amps

Apparently they're handmade in the US and are supposed to be really good. They are supposed to make good pedals too. Does this brand sound familiar to anyone?

Re: Blackstar Amps

I met them at the LA AMP show and took some video with one or 2.

Nice amps, and nice guys from England.

They have some of the combos at GC now. The head is really interesting in that it has different caps and settings to milk everything from a Bassman to Hot Rod 800 tone at the turn of a click switch.

ummmmmmmmmmmmmm

uhhhhhhhhhh

I really like the company and the people. I like their philosophy. I used it in a limited capacity. I would never bad mouth a young, and fun bunch of people. They are in the Marshall vein so I draw the comparison, and still prefer Marshall by a notch. I still proudly play a Bogner Shiva if that's any indication.

I felt the class A combo with Greenback offered a lot of tones and saturation. The EL84 is NOT an AC30 knock off, and offers some nice gain.

The larger stack was little thin to me at times, but offered a variety of tones. I thought the thickest sound was the "Bassman" setting on the head, but I do like to hear an amp get gainy AND be thick (not buzzy) at the same time like a Bogner XTC does. The Blackstar lacks thick, but it is never buzzy.

I would say the V30 cab might not have been the best match. I might have wanted a G12H30/V30 mix or a Greenback cab with this amp, and had some fun to see what was possible.

Hope that helps/

I would post the short video I have, but its funny how these forums work. I posted once on TGPand I ended up regretting it.

Re: Blackstar Amps

That's cool. I'm not looking to buy one. I'm just interested in knowing about these since Guitar Center started pushing them lately. Thanks for the info. It sounds like these might be something to look at in a few years down the road

Re: Blackstar Amps

Hi...I recently picked up a club 50 head...I contacted the place were I purchased it...Apparently they have tube issues...they buy the tubes from china...I played the amp for 5 minutes, sparks were coming out from the tube sockets and shut down. After 20 minutes I put the amp on standby it was making a chirping sound. When I called them they ordered me a new amp right away and told me that I was the first one to have any problems.I actually loved the sound of the amp but I'm going to try a stage 100....need alittle more power...hope this helps...................
