Blind Buy....

Every time I plug into this amp I think to myself..This has got to be THE tubiest sounding (non all tube?) amp I own.

But then I plug into something like my little Laney IRF Dualtop (60W Analog SS) head ..and that little ****er sounds like this ...so who am I to say??? :lmao:

And a bit more Laney IRF Dualtop 60 jamming (w/ my Ibanez RGT this time) since I still have it mic'd up :bigthumb:

Last night I moved the new amp from the top of the Laney 2x12 stack to the to of my oversized 1x12 stack (bottom one with a Creamback 65 & the top one w/ an Electro harmonix drver). Played it w/ the EH 1x12 (G12T75 clone) and it sounded awesome. It also damn near boke my back getting it across. Can't believe how heavy this thing is. The trannies are absolutely MASSIVE. Bigger than the one's in most 100W heads. All those separate switchable circuits in it probably add to the weight as well. Phsically it's as large as an old school 100 W tube head as well and makes my 50 W PRS Archon that's on top of it look like a Lunchbox :laugh2:

All the writing/labelling on the front panel is back-lit and lights up when you turn the amp on..it's pretty subtle/classy and you don't really notice it though it works perfecty and does it's job. Still... a pretty cool handy feature for dark stages. But the lack of flashing lights and LCD screens makes it look absolutely old-school. Overall a really cool looking amp. Looks like the stock tubes are EH's. I'll leave them in there and not mess w/ anything cuz the amp sounds phenomenal the way it is :bigthumb:

Plugged into my Creamback 65 1x12 cab. Pushed the treble & Presence up a bit & cut the mids cuz the Creamback is pretty dark & mid-forward w/ rolled off highs. Also had the Master volume knob (push/pull) pulled to lower the output...wanted to check that out. ...great for jamming at more bedroom friendly volumes. :bigthumb:

Class AB Triode followed by Class AB Pentode & then Class A Pentode.

And with The Electro Harmonix 75W driver loaded 1x12..

I think I should get an unloaded 2x12 Cab for the Electro-Harmonix since I have two of them and one's just sitting in a box.

I bet they'd sound great in decent 2x12. Also my main upcoming/hotly anticipated NAD (end of this month/beginning of next hopefully) "should" sound pretty sweet with a pair of G12T75 clones....so there's that as well :D

^^ That amp has such a sweet organic "all-tube" kinda sound ..I bet even a dude like Eric Johnson would'nt be able to tell the difference :laugh2:

I mean I have a lot of Solid State amp's & a hybrid amp or two that can be dialled in very easily to sound and feel incredibly tubey ..but tbh, there are usually some Amp/EQ settings on each of those amps that feel/sound a bit "SS' and could potentially give the game away, especially to someone "golden-eared" like EJ.

Not w/ this baby though ..dude would be totally stumped :lmao:

I think I forgot "Class A Triode" in that last "different output configuration comparison" video ....never mind :bigthumb:

I now hi-gain assigned to both channels (Channel 1: Lead-Class A Triode, Channel 2: Lead-Class AB Pentode) ...so it's an all-out shred machine :firedevil

More all-tube-like jamming w/ the DT50's 'Class AB/Pentode' setting ...a bit more reverb this time for dreamy tones..

It's a particularly fun track to jam on cuz of all the sweet changes (so....microtonal bends (!!!) for which you need your ears/can't get out of a book/read "notation" for ...ask Jeff Beck :laugh2:)

But yeah...they are fun :bigthumb:

More jamming & more musical chairs :lmao:

I love the resonant, effortless 'singing' feel & quality it has w/ extended/sustained notes.. always the mark of a great amp :bigthumb:

Anyway it's back to the top of the Laney stack where it will most likely stay. The combo versions of these amps come loaded w/ V30's and I have to say it's a match made in heaven. It's sounded great w/ everything I've paired it w/ so far but the V30's bring something even more special to the TONE table :bigthumb:

Plugged into the Laney V30 loaded 2x12:

Also had the opportunity to really open it up in the evening yesterday cuz the neighbours were out . Played it loud as fuck for about half an hour and it was well worth it :D.

This thing actually sounds pretty damn sweet at low volumes w/ the Master volume knob pulled (see above) but man it is glorious when you crank it up w/ the master pushed down! It's also insanely loud ..like crazy loud..again more like a 100W head than a 50. I had the Master just over halfway & the earth was shakin :D

Some amps are just loud as fuck no matter what they're rated at. Don't know how that works. My 30 W Brutus Live is another one like that....It sounds MASSIVE cranked up \m/

It's funny how when you switch to Class A and record stuff......solo's sound more "forward/in your face".....wonder why that is. I mean, it's awesome either way ..but just. puzzling..

I thought it might have to do w/ extra brightness or presence or something but I dialed both of those back on the amp up there ^^ and it's still the case.

I've noticed the same thing w/ my Cicoganani Brutus Live head too (also a Class A amp) ...it's always way more 'up front' sounding in mixes.

Crunch Channel/Topography or w/e re-visited to jam on some slo blooze...

Gain just past 1 o'clock, Bass at 12:30, Treble at 11:30, Presence at 12:00. Master volume pulled, reverb 1/4 of the way up.....Class AB/Pentode...done :bigthumb:

Laney 2x12 w/ V30's (mic'd w/ a Sennheiser e906). Guitar was my Ibanez SA460MBW (not the Charvel) w/ the stock neck single coil..

And moving on from the soulful strains of the blooze....to some more uptempo use of the Crunch channel

Same amp settings, but pushed w/ my DOD OD250 ..which brings it nicely into sweeping/tapping/shred territory :bigthumb:
