Blueman has converted me! I love the 250k volume pots on my Les Pauls.

I haven't heard a humbucker that I thought was too bright, but realize that I am a vintage humbucker (or at least lower output) kind of guy. Actually, I've always been more of a single coil guy than anything else. A lot of players claim they don't like treble, but you need a good amount of it in order to cut through in a band situation. I'm also with Christian and John about 300k pots. They always make my guitars sound dull. To each their onw.

Exactly....I said in another post...whatever works......works!

The one guitar I have with 300k volume pots is my SG Classic and I don't see myself changing them. It sounds great as-is. Could just be because of the P-90's but I have no plans on swapping those pots out. That guitar is bone stock. I made one small change in the wiring and that was making the tone pots hook up 50's style.

If you're a single coil guy, especially Fender single coils, HB's are going to sound warm and thick, maybe too much so. I'm on the other side of the fence; my ears are accustomed to HB's and P-90's. What you hear as muddy, I hear as 'full.' Some people like to be in the sun, I prefer shade; same with tones: some think treble is prone to being harsh. It's not that I don't like treble, I just want to moderate it so it's not so glaring, you know, like wearing sunglasses.

Not all players can handle or properly work with the clarity of single coils...:14:

Ok Blueman.....You're right and I'll take your posts in a positive way....I'll really work harder at it.... ;o) I never said you weren't generous...It's your personality... Lol...Ok internet forum handshake and we move on...I'm not posting the Gibson vs Strat stuff anymore unless I add you to my ignore list! ;o):nana::beerchug: Peace! Friends!

Thank you. :friday: I respect you and your knowledge, regardless of where my my humor takes me. That doesn't change John. Maybe I get bored and restless and try to liven things up a bit. No harm in that. Not like I'd ever intentionally try to hurt someone. We're talking about some really nerdy stuff here; take a step back and look at how meaningless all of this is in the big picture. Most musicians would find this forum extremely tedious. Not like anyone here should get worked up over what some other nerd happens to type. Most of the closest friends I've had in my life have been complete opposites from me, except that we're both confident in our beliefs and don't get upset when they're questioned, or even made fun of. I'm an athiest, many of my good friends are very religious, including my wife. If I can handle that gracefully, does anyone really think I'm going to blow my lid over what pots strangers put in their guitars?

Good to see the hatchet buried. Glad my thread did it. Both of you guys have helped me quite a bit, and I hate to see "brothas" fight.

We're all standing here with ripped shirts and messed up hair, surrounded by broken furniture, but everyone's made up and is smiling now. Almost like responsible adults. :14:

Single coil is usually my preference, but I like to use the right tools for the job. I love a nice humbucker. I've used the Seth, Jazz, PGs and the '59 from Duncan and I love them all. The '59 is my favorite, but it is too boomy in the neck, so I use the Jazz. It sounds a lot like the '59 with less bass. The PG neck is also a thing of beauty.

So I'm not purely a single coil guy. And there are definitely times where I do find certain single coils much too bright.

Hey, they have 25K pots at StewMac! I think I will try them!

Really too bad they don't have them in a long-shaft version for Pauls! ****!
