Blues Jr. + MI Audio Crunch Box = OMG!

Well I received my MI Audio Crunch Box today

Since I was actually searching for a pedal that could be used as a good crunch channel, I rented a Traynor YCV50 for a couple of days to be able to A/B the pedal with the lead channel of the Traynor.

After several tests at room and rehearsal volume, it was obvious that the MI Audio Crunch Box was 95% there. It was actually hard to tell the difference between the lead channel of the amp and the clean channel+pedal. What an amazing pedal. The best distrotion pedal I've ever played.

So I went back to the store and picked up a Blues Jr. because I've wanted a smaller amp with good crunch for a while... and this is it. In spades! The Blues Jr. + Crunch Box sound so good it's unbeleivable.

So now I have great Fender cleans and good british crunch in a small package

I can't be happier. I really have to make some clips of this set-up. Hopefully, it will translate well on the recordings.

As a side note, I once owned a Blues Jr two years ago, and I'm now convinced that it was defective. It had no low end at all, and it was very hollow. It sounded like a cardboard box, to the point where I was wondering why people liked this amp. The one I have now sounds amazing for cleans and mild overdrive on its own.

I want to thank you guys for pointing me to the MI Audio Crunch Box. Can't remember for sure, Rid was one I think, and a couple of other guys. This is my best purchase in quite a while.

Cheers!

MI Audio rocks! Glad you found the pedal.

I hope I can buy the Tube Zone..but a Blue Boy Deluxe clip on their page had this warm, mellow fusion sound I want.hm...but great pedals for sure.

I have been looking for a rig like this but is there anything lower-wattage yet Fender clean than the Blues Junior? 15 watts is still a lot for where I play these days... Or, does the BJ sound good with the master volumn down?

It still sounds pretty good. I know what you mean, 15w is loud. I can't play it cranked when my parents are home/at night. With the MV at 2-3 and the V at 10 or 11, it stil sounds pretty good. For strictly cleans, I leave the MV open and adjust the V to taste.

Man, if I ever need anything with some serious gain on it, I know I need the Crunchbox. I've only heard rave reviews, and their even better when it's paired with an amp I have!

Welcome to Sly's rig of the month :) j/k bro...

kjrocks knows me a little too well :laugh2:

Hopefully though, this time I found a rig that will fit my bill :fingersx:

Actually, I've spent the last 2 years experimenting a lot. I'm now a little more aware of what I'm looking for.

Yes it does. You can actually play quite low and get a good tone. Of course, you won't get a Marshall tone at low voulme with a BJ, but with good pedals, this amp will give you great tones at apartment volume. I think this is a great tone machine for this purpose. Certainly blows most SS amps unless you're tone deaf.

Best thing is that it can be played nice and low, but still is quite loud for gigs, too.

Awesome. I'm hoping to get one in the future. Can't wait to hear some clips! :fingersx:

:laugh2: And you really can wake up the whole neigbourhood with this little beast. It can get loud as hell.
