What amps did he use in his first two records (Never Look Back, Plaid)? I know he used the Dirty Boy in Hairpick. On the first two it sounds like marshalls only smoother and sweeter. Any Ideas? Thanks

Re: Blues Saraceno Amps?

MESA.

IIRC it was a combo. Maybe a IIB.

EDIT: the first album anyways, not sure about the second.

Re: Blues Saraceno Amps?

Mesa really? Are you sure about this?

Re: Blues Saraceno Amps?

Didn't his dad make his amps?

He made him an amp called the Dirty Boy but that was only in his third album. The more I hear the first two albums it sounds like it probably is a mesa.

Re: Blues Saraceno Amps?

Yup..

Read it in an interview with him at the time, and searched out a studio 22 because of that tone... nowadays, to my ears its fairly obvious it's an old MESA: Dark, sweet, smooth, balanced tone.

What's that amp in the background in this clip?

That clip was for Yamaha, so I'd venture to guess yamaha(?).
As for Plaid, Marshall is listed in the 'thanks to these company's', and not Mesa Boogie. In fact, he thanks SEYMOUR DUNCAN as well as Marshall Amps. Blues sounds like Blues regardless of what amp he uses. He gets the same tone out of a $150 Silvertone as he does the Dirty Boy or Bogner.

Re: Blues Saraceno Amps?

Saraceno has always been one of those guys who makes me scratch my head and say how? Regardless of how good a player he maybe, what has he really done? He has signature guitars, amps, pedals, pickups and possibly more that I don't know about but really has no track record of album sales, ticket sales or anything else you would expect from a guy with the laundry list of endorsement deals he has.

What am I missing? What do I not know about the guy that would fill in the blanks?

Shnook is right, the amp in the clip is a Yamaha T-50 combo, and FWIW, those are actually great amps for the money these days...but also, FWIW, that is the only time I have ever seen Blues with one...at that time he was using Yamaha guitars and since that was playing for a Yamaha booth in that clip thay asked him to use a Yamaha amp as well.

Also, I have never heard mention of Blues using a Boogie of any kind until this thread...not saying it's not true I just never head it.

That's why it looked familliar to me... That's the series Soldano designed for yamaha.

Thats the one...those are actually smokin amps for the money. They can be had these days for not too much cash at all and you can dial in some pretty sweet tones with them, the reverb is prety good, seperate tone stacks for the 2 channels...nice amps over all!

I've wondered the same thing. What little I've seen and heard from him, he seems to be a great player, but those moments are rare. (Duncan clips, and YouTube spots.)

I saw an interview with him once, (perhaps from his own webpage), where he "leaked out" a bit of bitterness over not being the next "Eddie". Its too bad. He seems to have the talent.

Re: Blues Saraceno Amps?

I think he's just really respected by other famous guys. Dimebag Darrell always used to rave about him (even had a plaid tattoo), Dweezil Zappa, Paul Gilbert....

Maybe it's just one of those deals where everybody in charge happens to dig the guy, and feel like putting his name on stuff.

Re: Blues Saraceno Amps?

I guess thats true. There are so many great artists out there that aren't "mainstream".

Perhaps, but endorsement deals are done to sell product. How does a relatively unknown artist with no track record become such a hot commodity? I would have to think that the asking price of the endorsement has to be so low that the mfg has little or nothing to lose

It's funny, coz we're usually bitching about how the dude from Blink 182 got a signature Gibson, and now people are like, "Who the hell is this guy? Yeah, he's a smoking guitar player, but it's not like he's popular or anything!" :laugh2:

Re: Blues Saraceno Amps?

Blues recorded 3 very good solo CD's. A CD with his band Transmission OK. He recorded with Poison. Played for Cream with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce when Clapton refused the psot and done sessions for many other artists. Lately he's been focusing on composing scores. Being a successful musician isn't always based on albums sales. Here's a list from Blues' site of some of the things he's done score work for.

Perhaps they're counting on people saying, "Hmm.... signature pickups, pedals, guitars, lots of famous dudes talk about him.... who the hell is this guy, anyway?" and then looking into it.

Also, he's NOT unknown among people who read guitar magazines. I've seen his picture in damn near all of them since the first one I bought like 14 years ago. One of the first guitars I was dying to own was his signature Samick, and one of the first guitar-oriented albums I owned was Hairpick.
