Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

Re: Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

yeah, i do feel (and more importantly hear) the difference between "gibson", "PRS", and "Fender" scales ... i mean, i own and enjoy guitars of both scale lengths ... but i have plenty of 25.5" guitars and only one 245 ... so i want my next guitar to be "gibson" scale and 2 P90s ....

i was real close to pulling the trigger last week, but then got notice that i got hit with the alternative minimum tax to the tune of owing $2500 to the IRS .... so while i am not firing up the engines on the cessna, i wont be buying a ~$1k guitar this week :D

You have a SC245? Nice. When those came out I had gas for one, I admit, in Goldtop finish. Nice looking guitars. Even though its 24 3/4" scale, I wanted one so bad. Does yours have the wide/fat or wide/thin neck?

Send the $2500 in pennies. :)

Re: Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

I'd like to see a shoot-out between the PRS SE's and the Sterling MM's.

yeah, the 245 is pretty happenin... i got it for a song too cus its a non-10top ... wide fat - plays amazing ... and i've absolutely no interest in swapping pickups either - nicest PRS pickups i've played ... i like it as much as scott's R8 that i played at the forum day jam (which is a spectacular guitar) ...

if money were no object, i'd be all about one of the new 'ted mccarty' 245 soapbars, probably a double cut, but the singlecut is happenin too

Apples to oranges. Set-neck versus bolt-on. Too many differences to compare them. About all you can compare is build quality based on them both being made overseas.

Nice. My SE has the wide fat neck too. I love it. Feels very comfortable with the 10" radius. These things are addicting...LOL.

If money were no object, I'd be all over something, don't know what though.

Re: Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

Those soapbars are gorgeous!! I have steered clear of anything PRS, cos I'm afraid I'll either hate them, or want one so badly I have to have it...and I can't get even close to affording a US one!
Although, I turn 40 next year, might be a nice pressie...:D

Re: Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

I finally sold the MIJ Tele and was able to use the funds from it to pick up a PRS SE Singlecut Korina. Thankfully, it's the same one I played a couple weeks ago. I thought for sure it would have sold over President's Day Weekend. I played it at the store a little bit more just to be 100% sure and ran it through a couple amps. Man, this guitar sings. It is stupid light and so comfortable to play. It needed just a slight setup but that was it; new strings, adjust the action, check the neck relief. All is good. The pickups are staying as-is for now. I see no need to change them right now.

This is a stock pic. Haven't taken any of my own yet.

Erik, you're a big jerk and we all hate you. ;-) Congrats bro! 2 questions: is the guitar "neck heavy" (I hate that!) and how do you rate the sustain of your new SE?

Re: Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

I really like those Korinas... for the money it seems bargain of the year. I was going to ask how they balance too... are they neck heavy? I'm going to see how much they are over here... no doubt not the bargain you got Erik! Congrats.

Re: Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

There was a vintage natural SE SC hanging on the wall too. Very pretty in person. That was sounded great too but I like the Korina model better.

Thanks guys. Not neck heavy at all. Balances perfectly fine. As for the sustain. Ummm, I think it's still going...LOL j/k. Really though, it has a mad amount of sustain. At least as good as my frankenstrat.

Actually, that's what I'd be curious about. Quality, frets, necks, finish, etc. I know they are two different beasts, just curious who makes a better 600ish guitar.

Re: Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

Cool and congrats!
I am looking at the thinline one with twin buckers...total simple...makes me go into ZZ-Top mode all by it self...haha

Thanks. I can't stop playing it. Love it. Those semi-hollows looks sweet. I've got 4 guitars with double-cuts. Time for a single-cut. ;)

Ah, gotcha. After playing some Sterlings and PRS's, my vote goes to PRS. The Singlecuts just feel more solid. I do like the Sterling based off the Axis though but I'd rather have a real MM Axis.

Re: Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

Yeah we have some of those singlecuts too.....
We have a white one that sounds really really good....and the best thing about those guitars, tune up and play, everything works out of the box.
:)

Yup. It just plays. I did tweak the action and neck relief a little more to my liking but the setup off the wall was great. I love the simplicity of it. This thing could take over the number 1 spot.

If yours is anything like mine (
s6201882_39771386_1936.jpg
), you're not joking about the sustain.

I remember after I got mine, posting about how "this was the first guitar that I've ever played that was truly, truly resonant."

I still maintain that it plays better than my MIA Fender, my Westerly, RI Guild, everything.

Erik, does your have that blocky, square-shouldered (gigantic) nut?

I just learned a song that has a lot of 1st-fret F chord action, and I have GOT to sand the nut down, it's killing me.

Yup. It has that big nut on it. Doesn't bother me though.

Mine plays better than my MIA Fender too. Much more resonant. It doesn't play better than my Frankenstrat. Not many that I have played does. ;)

Re: Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

pure sex! i was this -> <- close to getting a se one korina and modding it for a p-90 in the neck.

Re: Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

I'll probably sell my stupid Ibanez next month. After that, a PRS Santana SE is surely coming my way. With the stoptail.

Tried one today. Balanced tone, clear sounding pickups, really light, fantastic sustain. I fell in love with it. Korean PRS guitars are amazing value.

Re: Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

Congrats on the sweet score man.:1: I know how you feel about picking up a sweet deal. I've always wondered what the appeal of Korina is, and you guys just filled me in a little bit about it:thanks:

I actually have a 2002 Tremonti SE in the discontinued Platinum silver metallic. It plays great, and has a mad amount of sustain. Gotta love the mahogony body/neck combo. I love this guitar but i want something with better access to the upper frets, so I am actually selling mine right now. Check it out here

Re: Bought my first PRS - and I Love It!

Not trying to be a copy-cat but I do have one of these bad boys out for delivery today and cant wait to see it! :eyecrazy:

I had a Soapbar II for a while and it never failed to put a smile on my face every time I played it - so the Singlecut should be all that and more! I am thinking of maybe wiring it up like a Satriani with push-pulls for hi-pass and coil split just to make it a little more versitile - and trying hard to resist Lucid's zebra 59/Jazz combo :naughty:
