So i recently got a new les paul traditional from my wife on my birthday and well anything i get i just have to tinker with that's just me.

That being said along with my wife tired of me gee hon , i wonder what black outs would do in this thing? We went to one of those big name dealers. Since there are only 2 major ones in California i'll leave it up to you to decide.

OK so we walk into said store and wait around for like 45 minutes to get somebody to help, when help does arrive it turns into a let me go ask my manager fiasco, after about 20 mins of back and forth.

The manager cuts off the new trainee and helps me. First he gets real snide and he acts like he doing me a favor, then he proceeds to ask me in a condescending voice " So what kind of guitar are these blackout going into?

I respond a les paul traditional. then he asks "why didn't you get a standard?" I said it was gift from my wife.
Whom was standing right next to me. I guess he finally realized he was being a D-bag and started acting like a normal person as he tried real hard to get chummy real fast.
Oh but it doesn't end there this manager starts to drop his pup knowledge on me ill spare you the details as this is running a little long in the tooth,

but the Pièce de résistance came when he said, when i get home i should magnet swap my blackouts. :butkick:

When I lived in So Cal 20 years ago, I would hit up Hollywood, West Covina, Santa Ana, and Fountain Valley GCs. They had a lot less of them back then.

How did you spend 20 minutes talking about blackouts with an employee? It's a pretty simple concept to grasp. You go, ask for the set, go home and install them.

Re: Bought some new blackouts last night (story)

Except, of course, somewhere in that sequence you have to PAY for the product BEFORE you can quit fantasing about owning it, let alone prematurely posting about it on the internet.

Regarding the SD Blackouts magnet swap baloney. A Dremel tool is not all that expensive! ;)

i Kid you guys not , the reason it took so long is that they did'nt seem to have them in stock, they had to order them from a warehouse or another store, until they found some in the back.( i guess they stash em in the back so customer's don't buy them)

That being said, the guy was fiddling with the computer and his manger to order them which is why it took so long.
Maybe i expect to much from big name stores, that might be just me

they do this all the time at guitar center hoping to dupe someone with lesser knowledge about pickups yet they are still just trying start somewhere with tone, they find that weakness and confuse the person with faulty wisdom. Funny story altogether, i might be picking up a set of blackouts at my local friendly GC hopefully without the hassle of a bser.

Re: Bought some new blackouts last night (story)

I have way too many stories of my local Guitar Denter that are a lot like this, some a lot worse. I blame the way they pay their help. Either that or they have a company motto: Hire the handicapped, they're fun to watch, (rolling eyes). Most of the ones at my local smell and I don't mean in a good way, yikes. I will only go there if they have something that one of the 3 I usually go to doesn't have it.

Re: Bought some new blackouts last night (story)

When I was at the local flea market the other day, I walked up to a table that had what looked like an MIM tele. I asked guy if I could hold it, and when I did I realized that it had a counterfeit neck on it (like a really CRAPPY counterfeit.) and had a homemade body with a TERRIBLE finish job. It reminded me of the old mini-vans with the rough bondo jobs on the side that I see driving around. When I set it down, he proceeded to tell me "Yeah it's a Gibson" He wasn't joking. Sometimes it amazes me how desperately some people want to rip you off.

I snarfed my coffee , thats was funny, if you wanna have fun with flea marketers and swap meet sellers, little bit of fun make sure you have your smart phone and if there is something remotely cool but the guys or ladies being a jerk , whip out your phone and say, i got this app on my phone that lets me scan said product and it will tell me if said product is stolen or counterfeit, i did this once where a lady was selling old vinyl records and she went from 3$ to 1$ a record, i know its not nice but its funny
