That looks quite cool :)

This may be a silly question, but why get a 57 and a 58? In my experience, they're essentially the same mic!

I have a 58 that I take the dome off when I record guitars or bass, and put the dome back on for vocals. Works fine :)

hmm....something to think about. I'll probably just buy the 58 for now....I forgot I was getting a mic with the rebate. :smack:

I do want to get two mics, I've heard the sound quality is much better.

More mics doesn't necessarilly give you 'better' sound quality, but it gives you extra options by being able to pair mics together that have differing characteristics.

When I record guitar at home I use an SM58 (with the dome off) dynamic mic, and a Blue Baby Bottle Condensor mic.

I dunno what you know about microphones, but Condensor mics tend to sound warmer than dynamic mics, but can't handle as high Sound Pressure Levels as dynamic mics can.

Re: Bought this beast

I got ya.....

I don't know a lot about mics....I've just heard that if you can catch more frequencies with more mics, it will sound more realistic. That only stays true for a little bit though.

Not entirely true. Different mics have different frequency responses, and are therefore more useful in some situations than others. That's 1 reason using more than 1 mic (all different) on a source can yield very good results.

You can totally change the sound while recording a guitar just by changing the microphone you use.

When I was doing alot of studio engineering I made a sample CD up of the same guitar/amp combination but recorded with every mic the studio had, just for comparison purposes.

It really helped me pick out what mic might be best in what situation.

Re: Bought this beast

Question,
That "instrument in" hole, that means that it can take a line out from Attenuator right?(MasLite has a LINEOUT feature) hmmm would be nice if could throw my AOR straight on the hardware without any implications ...... ???

Re: Bought this beast

I think the instrument in means you plug your guitar straight in (Direct Box)

the Line in is what you are looking for....

Re: Bought this beast

looks cool man. post some recordings so we can hear how it turns out. i don't have anything decent to record on, so i'm interested in how it ends up.

Re: Bought this beast

Tell me how it is once you get it, thats part of the recording setup I'm buying before the end of the year so I can record my band/self.

Re: Bought this beast

will do. It should be here in the next week or two and then a while more for the mic....

Re: Bought this beast

FWIW, the SM58 and the SM57 have different frequency responses - not quite the same microphone, with or without the grill.
