My guitar tech showed me his new gigging amp (50 watt 1-12) a while back, and said that the guy who made it also makes other wattages. So, as soon as I had some cash we took a ride to the guy's shop. My friend told me that the guy had a used 25 watt 1-12 combo, so that's what I wanted to try.
With my Strat and Jeckyll & Hyde pedal the 25 watt 1-12 sounded great, but with high gain the low end seemed a bit "flabby". (The speaker was an unknown Celestion model.) The guy was all out of 40 and 50 watt amps, but he did have another 25 watter with two 10 inch Eminence speakers. It sounded so sweet, both clean and with the J&H that I had to buy it.
Open back 25 watt 2-10 combo with a pine cabinet and a wheat/tan colored tolex; looks similar to a Fender Deluxe Reverb. (Someone else builds the cabs for him.) Controls: Single channel amp with volume, master volume, reverb, presence, bass, middle, treble, bright switch, bass boost switch, mid-shift switch, and a switch to remove the reverb circuit completely from the signal path. Hand wired on a turret board with all military spec parts and tubes (6V6s, 12AX7s, 12AT7s, and a rectifier tube from the good old days RCA, Phillips Electric JAN) in a stainless steel chassis. The builder (ex-military) has been doing this for a long time, so these parts were probably new when he got them! Not sure which model Eminence speakers are in it, but they sound great. The faceplate has his name etched on it. The faceplate seems a bit cheap and the tolex job isn't perfect, but for what I paid I have no complaints.
Not a circuit board to be found anywhere! I'll see if I can post pics later.
Sorry, but I can't figure out how to move the pics from my computer to this thread.
