brian may style strat

I was looking at the brian may red special, and liked the idea of the individual on/off and the in/out of phase switches. i was wondering if i could make this mod to my strat, and how easy it would be. i also want it to be in parallel, unlike the brian may guitar. if anyone has any info on this, or a wiring diagram for this, that would be appreciated.

Re: brian may style strat

I didnt see the price, how much is that pickguard? I wander if there is any way to install a series/parralell switch so you could switch between trisonic tones and traditional strat tones, now that would be cool

thanks

i would also like to know both of these

Re: brian may style strat

I've been checkin all over the net for a prewired burns trisonic strat guard and I didn't find anything

You can get all this functionality with only three switches. And, they'll be the kind that only requires a small round hole.

If you don't mind waiting 'til tomorrow . . . after the hurricane blows over. ;)

Ok . . . you don't have to wait 'til tomorrow.

Use on-off-on DPDT switches. Each switch, when in the middle, is "off". Switch "up" to turn on the pup in one phase, "down", to turn on the pup in the other phase.

Re: brian may style strat

so using this diagram, it would give u both series ant parallel and in/ out of phase?

Re: brian may style strat

Sorry, didn't see this post for awhile.

This simple one doesn't give you series, just parallel.
Let me see what it would take to add that. ;)

Artie, maybe I missed something here, but I thought the third or fourth schematic on the treblebooster site showed exactly what he asked for, it contain a mod for both series and parallel with the phasing. BTW, a friend of mine has one of those BM model guitars, some of the options sound rather the same, and differences are subtle at times. Just know this ahead of the time.

Yeah, it does. The challenge that I created for myself, was to see if I could do this using only three switches. Having drawn up a couple variations, I can get close. Basically, I'm using the idea that you mention, that is, that several of the positions shown with six switches are redundant. I'm trying to see if that redundancy can be converted to alternate functionality.

For example, there's no point in being able to reverse the phase of all three pickups. Only one or two, relative to the other need that ability.

I haven't given up yet, but its looking bleak.
