From what I've heard the Alternate 8 is what you want in a nutshell but this is what I've heard not what I've experienced. I've never used the Alternate 8.
I'll check out some sound clips cuz I was kinda looking at the custom 5 but now that input gives me some options.
But one question I really want answered is does the blackout bridge + mahogany body set mahogany neck and ebony fb= thick ballsy high output Les Paul tone?
^ almost but an EC-1000 will never sound just like a Les Paul cuz of the 24 frets and thinner body.
you'll be pretty damn close tho.
Agreed, you'll get close. It will be LPish, but of course never sound exactly like an LP. Blackouts + that body type should be very full and big sounding and you'll have more output than you need. The highs in Blackouts seem very smooth and cut through the mix well. I like thm. For fat highs a Custom Custom would work too. I'd shy away from the Custom 5 if you want fat highs. I'd say you'll get just the opposite.
+1, I love the Custom 5 for rhythm but the highs are slightly on the shrill side probably not what you're looking forI'd shy away from the Custom 5 if you want fat highs. I'd say you'll get just the opposite.
Thanks for the replies guys. Yes I know that my EC-1000 won't sound just like a les paul but I am aiming for that kinda thick sound and I'm gonna sell my dean dc6 to get money for the blackouts and then sell the EMGs in my EC-1000 and my hellraiser to buy(thanks to yall's suggestions) either an alt8/59 combo or a custom custom/59 combo. Whatever yall think would work better.
:fingersx:

The blackouts will be pretty sweet in your EC, much thicker than EMGs, better harmonics, very difficult to get cleans out of them imo. Are you putting the alt8 or custom custom/59 combo in your hellraiser? I'd go with custom custom that way you're just a magnet change away from 3 other humbucker models.
Good plan, I've got a similar but slightly cheaper setup, ltd viper with emgs for downtuned metal, schecter c1+ with duncans for everything else. Be sure and update us when you get everything installed.
FYI- If I were you, don't waste any time with the duncan pots/jack, just plug the blackouts into the existing quick connect cables in your ec and be done with it in a few minutes.
