Brobucker & Slide

Re: Brobucker & Slide

Thanks guys.

Nice playing Doc...Hope alls well pal?

Hi John, thanks for asking... How about you? All is cool with me apart from being restricted to play slide you know... I have a ganglion cyst in my left index finger. The doc makes me wear a brace for some time and gave some medication aimed to disolve this cysts. If not, I think he'll cut it out. We'll see...

This is how I am playing my Melody Maker...

:)

Nice! Standard tuning?

Hi Lew. Thanks. Open E. I somehow could not get used to playing slide with standard tuning... Open E and open A are my favorites.

Hi Doc! Your slide playing reminds me of Duane Allman - that's why I asked if you were using standard tuning. I don't play slide in standard either. Open E or A for me too. Open D and open G sometimes but the strings get a little slack in those tunings. Sorry about your finger - but a similar thing happened to me years ago and that's when I started playing slide too. ;)

Duaney is my hero, I am a big fan... I have been listening to his stuff for so long now. But still I cannot get enough you know... I want to get better using standard tuning as well, but that'd require a bit time. Now that I have this issue in my left index finger (BTW thanks :) ), maybe it's a good time to do so.

I don't like slinky soft strings, hence 0.11's and open E or A is what I am using.

All is good pal..Playing more and playing out alot more these days also..The tweaking and modding phase has been gone for quite awhile.Just trying to be a better player, listening more, working on my picking hand.Never content on just being as good as I was a year ago! Slow process but always striving to be better,or at least more consistent!

Sorry about your finger/hand.Hope you get that soughted out really soon.I agree with Lew about your slide playing.

Re: Brobucker & Slide

John, that's good to hear. And thanks... I think my finger has been getting better in the last week.

Re: Brobucker & Slide

Very cool!

Sorry to hear about your playing hand, that sucks...wishing the best for a full recovery!

Cool slide axe! I use an 07 MM for slide too! Mines a burst and all chopped up too!

So...open E with 11 gauge strings but what kind of slide?? Is that a real glass medicine bottle or pyrex??

Re: Brobucker & Slide

Good stuff - has this Allman bros vibe to me. Nice to hear others playing styles - I am just starting to learn to play the slide.

Thanks man. To see what slide I am using, I just have checked Dunlop's website. I couldn't find it. The closest one is Derek Trucks' signature model... I don't remember any Derek Trucks' signature models anyway...

It has a bit thickish sides. I don't like them with thin sides you know.

Do you any pics of your Melody Maker? What pickups are you using? Cool!

Re: Brobucker & Slide

Man that sounds awesome. It's has some definite Duane Allman going on... any tips on getting started?

Re: Brobucker & Slide

Thanks... :)

Well I started by going over some very basic blues slide book. I was one of them Hal Leonard books, but I don't remember exactly what it was. Then, after learning some of the very basic stuff I started to play along the tunes I loved... Basically it was mainly listening and trying to copy what I hear on records.
