build your own board

those of you who have...i wanna see some pics! i need to get something together to organize my stuff better...and since i'm always trying to get the best bang for my buck...i think i'll try and make one!

i only need one to fit my CM, Rocktron, a wah, and maybe 3 other smaller pedals tops...i plan on using a 1spot for power.

so what have you guys built, was it very hard, how much did it run ya approx?!

Re: build your own board

I would seriously look into the Pedal Train Jr. for something that small. Pick one up used on the cheap and be done. They are sturdy, neat and light! Or on second thought you may need the mid sized one like mine with what you are trying to do. I picked mine up with the case used for $90.

looks good, when did you get the H2O?

Re: build your own board

I need to see some boards too. I'll be building/buying before long myself.

VIB - How well do you like that H20? I don't need one since I just picked up a delay, but I've always been curious about the quality of that pedal.

Not exactly your typical velcro-covered hunk o' plywood. The concept of replacing the backplates with the common deck, and hardwiring the pedals is not for the faint-of-heart. It's not exactly flexible, either.

I like the idea of "the case IS the board". Just pop off the lid and play. This probably isn't much of an advantage to you, but in my bar-band days, it was great to be able to hook everything up, but leave the cover on until right before we played. It greatly reduced the potential beer exposure. This concept could be applied to a velco board as well. I like it better than having a flat board, and carrying the whole thing around in a separate case.

The case in the picture, I had built by a local outfit (who charged way too little for it.) You can sometimes find good deals on used flight cases on eBay - turntable, mixer, or small keyboard cases are usually about the right size.

I'm not using this right now since I'm not using any pedals out front other than the wah and amp footswitch.

It's made from a shelf from Home Depot, a couple handles from the hardware department, and a couple mousepads attached to the bottom with 3M adhesive. Industrial velcro holds the pedals down. Total cost, approx. $25.00 and a little bit of time.

The wood is a top from an old desk I found. To the left of these is my VOX channel switcher. This board works great for me.

Re: build your own board

This week. It will hold me over for now. I will get that Diamond Memory Lane next year when I am not paying for wedding stuff everytime I turn around.

Yeah, I still wanna get one of those too. I think that would be my last delay pedal ever. The echolution was kool, but not as cool as the memory lane.

Re: build your own board

I'm gonna second the motion for a small pedaltrain. I have one, and the used ones can be found with case for under $100. I definitely think they're the best bang for the buck pedalboards out there. You can even mod them (as I have) to fit a voodoo lab pedal power underneath for maximum surface room

Re: build your own board

pedaltrains do look sweet...no doubt...but i'd like to stay around $50 bucks...that's why i'm leaning towards building one myself :nervous:

Re: build your own board

Faint-of-heart!:nana:

it's true...i'm skeeeered of all them wires and thingys! plus i'll probably try out several different pedals and swap them in and out, so i need versatility too.

Re: build your own board

at least it's on a board...mine's like that but on the floor...lol!

I've said it before: This is the ultimate pedalboard! I'd like to have something more versatile too, but the benefits of using something this neat, safe and easy to use outweigh the inflexibility in many regards.

I scored this Furman board from a friend before a move. It powers the pedals, and in a pinch, I can run a stage monitor or even my amp from the 120v sockets.

Re: build your own board

I scored a Gator pedal tote a few days ago... the small one with power supply. About $100 or so... I got a deal on mine from friends who distribute the stuff but I just saw musicians friend has the camouflage one with PSU for $50 which is even less then I paid!! :omg:

Even at $100 it's not too bad for a board with case & power! The power brick has 8 or 9 9 volt taps & three 18 volt. Downside is that the brick is powered by a wall-wart that seems kinda cheese-whiz. I want to attach it semi-permanently.

I'm wiring up my new mixing console... haven't had a chance to do anything but throw some pedals on to get an idea of the size... I never use this many on a gig anyway...

Power brick is factory mounted on the bottom, under the angled ramps.

I like Eriks board. Lean & mean. I almost built a similar one but I needed something that can travel.
