Building up strength

Cat In The Hatministrator
I've been playing for quite a few years, and don't practice nearly enough. I find that when I'm playing a repetative lick, or an extended jam that my hand and wrist on my left hand tire quickly. Any tips or exercises to improve strength and endurence?

Re: Building up strength

TwilightOdessy did a few warm up excersises (sp?) a little while ago, do a search for his threads, if you can't find them I can send them to you.

They are good, I am getting through them slowly but they do help keep all your fingers strength up.

Thanx, Rinse Master, I was about to suggest the same!! :D
I will be posting the next installment soon ... I've been wrapped up completing a new guitar project, chasing done some interesting endorsement leads, and preparing for an upcoming festival gig.
I will try to post sound clips of the new guitar as well as the next warm up tips installment over the next week - 10 days!!

Re: Building up strength

Yes always warm up. Ever heard of a gripmaster? they can really improve finger strength. I think musicians friend sells them.

Re: Building up strength

Nice, more on the way :D, better get up to scratch!

I know a guy who has one of the Gripmaster thingys as well, he uses it all the time, in the car, everywhere, I just play guitar to warm up my hand but they are pretty useful if your pushed for time or something.

Back in High Skool, I used to jam w/ this bass player who used to say that diddling girls with his fingers was great for building up strength. I don't know if that helps.

Re: Building up strength

The gripmaster helps you get more strenght in your fingers, and you can use it everywhere as well. But so does a small rubberball, just squeze it several times reapetedly. Dont overdo it, though, that might do things worse.

Re: Building up strength

Hahahhaha..... you guys made my day!!! Fish fingers indeed.

Funnily enough, I don't really think it smells like fish at all....its a bit more unique than that.

BTW, what if you only use one finger, as some tend to do? *winks*
