Buying a new guitar today!

Today I'm going down to Guitar Center to get myself an ESP LTD Viper-400 in white. Any advice or help?

Switch out the EMG's for Duncans! Good choice btw, Vipers have very fat bodies (compared to the EC's) and I'm sure you'll be happy with it!

Make sure you upload pictures!

Re: Buying a new guitar today!

I actually want the EMG's. I want to have a guitar with EMG's in it, because I figure that I already have two guitars with Duncans. My original plan was to get an sg special and put emgs in bu that would be over $1000. So the obvious and better alternative is the Viper which is almost half the price and everything I want.

Yeah, they are active so do you really need them to be in a sweet guitar such as an SG? It always seemed to me you can just throw them in a cheaper guitar and be good. It never really seemed like the dynamic of the wood really did that much for actives.

The Viper is made of the same wood as the sg anyway. (Mahogany)

I have to see if I don't like them first!

Re: Buying a new guitar today!

If you have not already gone and done so - but see if you can try out more than one and before plugging in play it acoustically. Check to see if the neck is straight and also take/borrow a tuner with you and check on the tuning and intonation. Depending on the action this may need to be lowered/raised depending on your taste. Check the weight and see what sort of difference it makes between the guitars - lighter one usually means a little more resonant than a heavier guitar.

Make sure all the hardware etc work and of course the pups are given a good going over. If possible take your own amp down to the shop or try an amp in the amp which closely resembles what you have or if they have one which is similar to your own. Try and get the best possible deal - case, sets of strings, lead, strap etc etc and if possible a pro set up thrown in and of course cash always helps!! Good luck

I didn't even do that. I walked in and the guy said that GC doesnt carry ESP's. So I was like whatever, then I drove over to Sam Ash. They carry ESP but didnt have the viper in stock. I am soo dissapointed right now. :blackeye:

Re: Buying a new guitar today!

Yeah...the GC thing in the first post phased me, GC has never carried ESP, it's downfall to me, as well has not having Peavey's. Musiciansfriend has em tho.

Re: Buying a new guitar today!

Here's some advice on Vipers... try it with a strap before you buy it. I don't know about the mahogany ones, but the basswood ones are neck heavy. Aside from that, it's a kickass guitar. I actually like the body shape more than an SG.
