Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I picked the C5 without listening! I just replaced a CC with a C5 in my Tele and I know it sounds better!!!!

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

C5 has more character for the blues man! The CC sounds like an opera singer trying to sing "Stormy Monday". CC tone is too refined for blues IMO!

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

The C5 has a growl to it that says blues. The CC creates a smoother signal that I associate with more sophisticated genres. Blues to me is supposed to be raw, just like rot gut whiskey not smooth like cognac.

I choose C5 for blues shuffles over the CC. I would do CC for hybrid styles like Latin/Rock ala Santana or Larry Carlton type stuff. You would need a smoother more refined tone for the latter of the two.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

ya you can still hear the clips! 2 years later!

I vote for the CC. the C5 sounds a little more refined and rounded on the edges. the CC has that old skool rock flava that you can just dig into

...oh my ****ing god.

Moom said this was an old thread in 2004.

This has to be the Jesus of SD. I want to edit out the fact that I still signed my post with my slave name back in the days of yore, but I feel like it's some sort of ancient relic I should never touch.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

CC sounds very nice and smooth
so thumbs up on that

what guitar did you use on the clips?
very cool playing

im looking fo more Seymour PU clips
is there any more on this site that
demo the pick ups? the offical website
the clips are poor IMO especially
if your wanting to know how they
truly sound

anyways Cheers cake55

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I like the C5 better, it seems to have more attitude and personality than the CC. Although I do like the CC too, the C5 has more personality to me.
Oh and one of the riffs sounds a lot like somthing I did when we had that blues jam on here a while back.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

We should do a sticky or even share Marin's clips on the SD homepage..it really shows what difference a pup can make..if that's ok with Marin. Whaddaya think?

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

Yes, that's right but here we have it in a "band" context and how well the pup does blend.

Just a thought.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

Wow. The CC blows the C5 away! At least in solo/blues tone. That **** is hot man, hot!

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

A lot of people think because the CC is alnico II, it can't do good fat rhythms.......but in the right guitar it can do it all. Alnico II always seems to be thicker, smoother....the exception to my ears would be the Rio Grande BBQ with Alnico V.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

Your playing kicks some mad llama's ass.

The CC sounded nicer, although both pickups were very very good.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

But the point is,

each pickup sounds good or at their best on different setups,

A/B a pickup with the same setup is unfair to a pickup who shines in a different setup, a different guitar, Amp

Each pickup has 1 or more sweet spots on the EQ depending on the players needs

but nice clip, hope you post more, nice clip,

Just my opinion,

Holy thread from the dead, Batman!

That said, I have missed out on the thread for 3+ years. After experiencing both the CC and the C5 in my own rigs I settled on the C5 for what I play and how I play the guitar. In these clips, however, the CC shines. Much better vocal quality, and I'm not sure I like the biting C5 as much in this context.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I also notice the CC is smoother, fits this music better than the C5, but on the faster runs, shredding and picking it seems to mush up, little note definition, which is nice for this type of music, each notes seems to flow smoothly,

The C5 has better note definition, good for shredding, I have a C5,
but in this clip, the CC is better,
