I just swapped my bridge C5 with a bridge CC. I therefore thought it would be a good idea to A/B the 2 pickups. I have used the same backing track and tried to play similar as possible. I recorded the C5 clip yesterday before the pickup swap and the CC clip today. The setup is the samel: www.marinblues.it/jaca2 guitar, Banzai Fireball 2 OD, Engl Screamer amp. The only thing that changes is the tone setting of the amp. With th C5 I used treble 2, presence 1, mid 9, bass 5. With the CC: treble 4, presence 1, mid 5, bass 5.

Which one do you prefer?

c5 sounds too harsh. cc sounds mucho smoother and balanced.

That guitar is a beauty - and sounds even better in your hands!

For that tune, I've got to say I liked the smoother tone of the Custom Custom too...

I actually like the C5 better for this clip. It sounds rounder and more full to me. The CC has personality but also a bit of a mid-spike here.

I like the CC, it feels like you can dig into the note a bit deeper which I love.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

i actually like the C5 better... i like the growl, i can really get into it! i agree the cc is a lot smoother and balanced... but the C5 is really distinct, you know a C5 when you hear one! i love it

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

i like the cc here. i found in these clips teh cc was a little more "lively", so to speak.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

I'm going to be a complete fence sitter here, 'cos I liked 'em both. The CC and C5 are two of my favourite pickups and both clips worked for me in a different way. The C5 has that ballsier old school type sound, while the CC has the warmer more fluid tone. Can't separate 'em. :wall:

Oh yeah, great playing Marin and a cool backing too :burnout:

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

Both sound great, but i love that creamy CC tone much better.

Thats actually a really great way to compare the two pickups, you're not going to do the same thing with different pickups are you by chance. Id be interested to hear a JB against those two just to see how the JB compares. And just anything, it really shows you the characteristics.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

Great! CC sounds thicker and more rich. I'd love to hear a Custom and JB with the same lead.

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

hmmm, you should do that with every pickup you can! it was really sweet!thansk!

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

So is a big part of that sound that fireball overdrive pedal? Cos i love that sound!

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

There's something about the CC that annoys me (must be the mids) and the c5 isn't smooth enough for me......so I say that a C3 would be the best option! :D

Re: C5 vs CC clip - cast your vote!

The CC sounded more singing and smooth, but this particualr piece had a traditional blues beat to it so for that I'd have to say the voicing of the C5 was a better match, more vintage-like.

Marin your playing never ceases to wow me! Ive been playing those CC and C5 (mainly the CC) clips these past few days when i go to listen to music...in place of actual songs! They just sound terrific, love your style!

That guitar and that CC, with the ENGL and that fireball pedal, and your fingers ;) , just sounds awesome together!

Keep em comin'
