Can I use a clean booster as a buffer?

I'm not expecting a clean booster to function exactly like a buffer. But can a boosted signal go through a long cable with less signal loss?
I personally use a TC spark mini booster, clean and true-bypass, and my pedalboard is a bit too small for another pedal.

Maybe if it has a really low output impedance.

Found the specs. My booster has 100 ohms output impedance. Is that considered as low output impedance? So can I see my booster as a buffer with a level control when it's turned on ?

That's pretty low. Give it a try.

Yes. I sometimes use a Katana booster at unity for a start of board buffer.

The only question would be whether you want a buffer before hitting your pedals or after - and where the Spark is placed. Mine is at the end of my board as a final "more" pedal, so it wouldn't cure guitar-board cable length issues before other pedals are kicked in.

That said, the Spark is a great clean boost and, at unity, would work very well for your application.

Yes to OP's question. The Wampler DB is a clean boost with independently switchable buffer. I currently use it and like it.

The Fulltone 2B is a clean boost with a buffer as well, though my understanding is that its buffer is operational only when the boost isn't on (i.e., unity gain).

You can always A?B test, too. Some people like bufferless long cable runs. Depends on the capacitance of the cable, and what your ears expect to hear. Try the guitar with a very short cable, then your long cable + pedals. How different does it sound?

It really warmed up the tone of Jimi's strats :onder:

In order to take the most advantage out of the situation, you would want the length of cable that goes into the booster/buffer to be as short as possible, but the cable that goes out can be long, otherwise you run into the same issue of signal degradation going into the unit. Once in, that unit may compensate a for signal loss, but it won't compensate for anything you have done before it goes in - for any frequency shifting you have done by adding more and more capacitance in parallel with your pickups by means of long shielded runs.
