Can there come a better pickup?

Or has it all been covered except for little tweaks here and there?

As I said before I am new to the pickup tone world but looking around it seems that there is a pickup around for every possible practical need.

What would be a concept pickup that broke the mold and goes where no pickup has gone before?

Re: Can there come a better pickup?

This is a question with no answer........or maybe as many answers as there are players or guitars.

If you like a Gibson PAF or a vintage fender singlecoil as your best/ideal pickup, then there will never be a better pickup made ever.

If you want something that is not yet made, then maybe there will be.

Re: Can there come a better pickup?

if the thing is outside the mold and way different to everything or at least very different when they first came out
i think the first ones were the pickups in the les paul recording, then Bill Lawrence L500 pickups, Flying v 2 pickups, EMGs, Duncan Parallel Axis, Duncan Live Wires/blackouts, Lace Alumitones and now Fishman Fluence

For sure. These kinds of threads have Vegas odds of being closed down after 4 pages of heated back and forth.

*gets popcorn*

Re: Can there come a better pickup?

I think the better pickup to come along will be one that gives you the benefits of a pickup swap without swapping pickups, or a magnet swap without swapping magnets, etc. all while maintaining stock appearance.

Re: Can there come a better pickup?

I defy the Vegas odds of being closed down after 4 pages of back-and-forth rambling:

Bridge: JB, Tone Zone.
Neck: 59, Jazz, Air Norton.

Re: Can there come a better pickup?

I still have to hear a pickup that sounds the same with poly and nitro.

hmmm 65 posts before the posts insulting each other intelligence and knowledge/lack of knowledge about pickups and then just blatant mocking insults to lower level insults and mincer finally coming to close the thread around post #90

Now that is thinking outside of the box! I like the concepts.

I'm an optimist. I think we can go 100 posts before this gets locked. We're not THAT bad are we?

Re: Can there come a better pickup?

nah i've seen better threads fall before the 100 posts mark, this one smells like a 90 posts before lock

Re: Can there come a better pickup?

I stumbled upon a late 80s or early 90s strat, the US strat plus deluxe and it came with the new, groundbreaking noiseless Lace sensor pickups. I've found that I would rather have the noise and character of a vintage style pickup. In the guitar world new things come and go and the classic stuff seems to prevail.

Re: Can there come a better pickup?

The "better pickup" has existed for decades:

The SH-5 Custom.
