Can you give me some hints for a Gibson LP tradtional?

I bought this guitar used a year ago. It had a Custom and an A2pro. I didn't like either. I don't like the Custom type of crunch (ANY of them, I tried them all) and the A2Pro was too bassy for my setting. I play mainly rock and hard rock with the bridge and clean with the neck (CCR, BTO, and some jazzy funky stuff).

I like the 59 set, probably my favorite Duncans. I currently have a Dimarzio Super D and a PAF. I like the Super D, though a little too compressed, still I can live with it. The PAF is not detailed enough for my taste.

I also tried PGs, I don't like them in either position. They have some kind of treble spike that I find annoying.

So I'm kinda frustatred now cause I can't seems to find the perfect combo. I think that the 59 set is the closest. Still, I'd like my bridge pickup with a little more mids and warmth.

Should I go Seth Lover? Gibson 57 Classic? Or maybe simply use an A2Pro(b) with a 59N?

What do you think?

I know, but you know the feeling?

MAYBE if I try the Seths? Or an A2Pro bridge? Or 57 classics?

Maybe I should just stop that "maybe" thing and just play the crap out of a 59 set... :)

the '57 classic is VERY dark in the neck of a LP. if you find the AIIP too bassy, then you will not like the '57

Now in this case - I think it is time to SERIOUSLY talk about mag swaps. A4's A8's etc....

Paging Magneto! You out there Blueman? We have a customer on isle A5.

Well, then I'm really tempted to go back to a 59 set. Thanks for the info!

Yeah Aceman, I think maybe tweaking a 59 set with magnets is my path... or maybe learning to tweak my amp more.

One of my favorite hard rock tone is Ace's 78 album, which he said he recorded with a Gibson with original PAFs (not the SUper D)... maybe that's why I like the 59 so much.

Damn, the more I talk, the more I crave a 59 set now :)

59s are superb unless you want more grunt in the bridge.
so mebbe a pair of 59s
or a 59 and a jb
or a 59 and a custom
or 59 an custom custom.
so...
59 and a custom gives you the option of a mag swap for a custom 5, or a custom custom.....

Go for a sure bet. Custom Shop Brobucker (order it potted), and a 59N.

Just trust me on that one.

I did this search for myself. The Brobucker was too dark and the 59N too bassy. My set now is a Ant (8.6k) coverless with a RCUO A5 (a tad more articulation than the Brobucker) and a 59N with a A4 (not so scooped and a tad more mids. The Neck would probably work with an AntN or a Seth too, but it should have an A4 and a highs as possible neck volume pot (selected 550k or even a 1 meg long shaft pot from torres engineering. My .02

Welp it sounds to me like you should either work with the Custom shop, OR explore other options besides Duncan. There are alot of great PAF style pups out there, and Seymour's signature tone stylings may not be your thing ultimately. Lollar, Fralin, Skatterbrane, etc etc etc.

I hear what you mean about the 59 set- they are *almost" there but never have been quite right for my tastes. I think a 59B wound to around 9K and then throwing a normal wind 59b with A4 mag into the neck slot would be good stuff.
