Mahogany can be yellow'ish, depending from where it was cut.
Those old Ibanez where mostly mahogany, and yes they had a cool sound those old things, borrowed one from a friend for a few fusion gigs once, wooddy warm and fat.

I remember reading somewhere that basswood, because it's so porous, makes it a poor wood for transparent/translucent finishes. By that, and the lack of dark, distinct grains in the wood, I'd tend to say mahogany or alder. I'm going to go with mahogany on this one, too. Keep in mind, I'm by no means a wood expert. Just going from what I've read. And yeah, basswood is super light.
btw, that is one of the best looking Ibenez's I've ever seen.

That may be right then, cause it was pretty heavy for how thin it was. I never really figured out where it came from. It was either a custom made USA model when they had the USA shop open or a small number production Made in japan. Either way it's nothing like the series today. It has a completely different neck too, this neck was rounder and a little thicker and the fretboard had a 12" radius instead of ibanez's usual 16". It also had the same floyd rose as on the satriani models. And it sounded amazing. I got it for $200 from a friend of mine who didn't want it anymore, lol!

I can't recognise the wood but anyway, considering the fact that my luthier pulled out at least a dosen of different chunks of pretty different-grained raw wood and all of them were mahogany, I'd say that's most prolly, CAN be mahogany
Somwhere I heard that for these slim S models Ibanez used some extra-strong type of dense mahogany because basswood just wasn't strong enough and that's why some of these guitars have a surprising wheight.

I've seen plenty of transparent finishes on basswood, and I'm willing to bet that's what that is. Basswood often has nasty streeks in it, but you can often find pieces that are uniformly white. Even if that is an S, Ibanez did make some with basswood bodies. Plus, I've never seen mahagony with that kind of lack of grain.

Nope it is solid, those axes where not cheap, not cheap made, no cheap wood, the maple is deep enough for that 3D feel.
