Carvin amps being blown out for 25% off. Looks like they are no more only the Keisel

Re: Carvin amps being blown out for 25% off. Looks like they are no more only the Kei

I wonder if they will still sell PA equipment. I think their guitars were what was keeping the company going. Once that was gone, it seems like a slow death.

Doesn't look like it. My old friend and long time Carvin endorsee Keith Miller is the one who messaged me with the heads up. From what I can tell looks like the Carvin side is done after 70 years!

Maybe this is juts my perception, but it seems like they've been losing ground for a long time.

Their local OC store shut down, then their Sunset Strip store closed, and you had to drive the factory in Escondido to try anything out.

If they're not making amps anymore, I wonder what Vai will do, he's been using Legacy amps for a LONG time. If he's not going to be able to use them, I'm sure somebody will make something for him.

Re: Carvin amps being blown out for 25% off. Looks like they are no more only the Kei

Vai probably has dozens of them Legacy heads. lol He'll be fine.
He's probably licking his chops knowing full-well the offers will be flying his way like tomorrow.

My gut feeling tells me he'll strike a deal with ENGL or Bogner, and less likely Blackstar.

Re: Carvin amps being blown out for 25% off. Looks like they are no more only the Kei

Hmm, I was thinking Marshall, before Carvin those were his main workhorses. Engl doesn't seem to fit him that well and Bogner won't move enough units because of the price point, he is a shrewd business man, a lot of his $ is from real estate investments with his brother.

Anyway, I wonder if the prices will drop more?

Re: Carvin amps being blown out for 25% off. Looks like they are no more only the Kei

Well that's sad, I always liked Carvin stuff (currently I've got the older black vai 2x12" they were blowing out when they changed to only weird colors).

Wonder if that 25% will go up. A sale, yes, but we've seen better from companies not liquidating their stuff. It also seems like prices got way jacked up from what I remember. The 100-watt tube power amp is currently on sale for $679 - weren't those around $500 something normally?

Seens like I remember them being $499, but that was some years ago.

This is what I was thinking
But the 25% is off that sale price

So if the sale price is $499 take another 125 off

Doesn’t Vai have older fans by now, who are making good money and can afford a $3,000 amp? $3,000 guitar... $3,000 amp...

I'd guess Bogner. He used Ecstasy heads just about exclusively from the early 90s until he went back to Carvin in '99.

I seem to remember hearing a rumor that the Legacy amp visible onstage was merely a prop and that Vai was actually playing a Marshall.....just a rumor though.

Here’s a couple of pics from when I saw the Generation Axe show. Clearly the legacy is on but it’s a little unclear if something is plugged into it.

Whereas the Marshall Nuno is using clearly has a cable plugged into it.

It was $559 in February 2017 (waybackmachine.com).

Same crap Sports Chalet pulled when they went out of business. There really never was a sale.

I wonder if Kiesel will buy the rest of Carvin...

I suspect his sound comes mostly from the Axe-FXII these days.

Re: Carvin amps being blown out for 25% off. Looks like they are no more only the Kei

As far as I know Vai's effects are largely coming from the Axe FX and he's lately been using a combination of Legacy I, III, and Fender amps.

He was a big Ecstasy user several years ago, and IIRC he blended that with a Marshall and a Soldano at points.

I'd love to see him get involved with Friedman (my favorite company) and those are the amps to beat these days. Ben Fargen did a lot of work on the Legacy III. He's Steve Vai, he's likely not hurting for options. :)

I would think that someone like Vai knew this was coming long before any of us, and has already made his plans.
