Those are pretty closely guarded secrets. The fact is, pro's have their stock gear worked on by their amp techs as well as guys like Reinholdt 9 times outta 10. It may not mean that the guts were stripped out and replaced, although I've heard some credible statements about Ed's 5150's. As far as Vai's legacies, I'm sure there have been some components changed inside to help the fidelity, although like Ed's pickups, we'll never really know the whole truth. It's not just products like Carvin or Peavey. It's no secret that lots of gigging amps have mods and work done, including super highend amps.
