Carvin Legacy?

I saw these amps have the power tube swap option like the XXX. I bet I could get one cheap used, but are they any good? Would I be better off just getting a XXX?

I would be getting the combo amp.

Thanks

Re: Carvin Legacy?

It's not a bad amp, but I think your money would be better spent on a Marshall DSL 50, DSL 401, and a small Fender or Peavey combo. Similar price range. I can't tell you what to buy, tho. You pretty much need to check out the Legacy and a few others and see what your ears tell you.

He uses them live. The G3 Denver and Live @ Astoria DVD's sound pretty killer to me.

Re: Carvin Legacy?

Too bad those amps have the guts of a bogner in them.

Total Bull****

I'll call it when I see it...until then... :laugh2:

I hear EVH does the same with his 5150's. The dumpster behind Bogner's shop must be filled to the brim with amp guts! :laugh2:

Re: Carvin Legacy?

Those are pretty closely guarded secrets. The fact is, pro's have their stock gear worked on by their amp techs as well as guys like Reinholdt 9 times outta 10. It may not mean that the guts were stripped out and replaced, although I've heard some credible statements about Ed's 5150's. As far as Vai's legacies, I'm sure there have been some components changed inside to help the fidelity, although like Ed's pickups, we'll never really know the whole truth. It's not just products like Carvin or Peavey. It's no secret that lots of gigging amps have mods and work done, including super highend amps.

Gearjoneser is probably right. I'd have a hard time NOT believing that top pro world-class players wouldn't pay the extra cash to have an amp tweaked and voiced to their needs.

Tweaked perhaps but not replaced wholesale as has been suggested. Who doesn't mod their stuff? Thats an entirely different matter.

I like the Carvin Bel Air MUCH Better than the Legacy.

so do i, but they are 2 different amps. the bel air isnt ment to do high gain, where the legacy is made to do blues.....

Re: Carvin Legacy?

Why have your stage amps modded if it's a signature amp... surely you would just have them made that way originally?

As for quality... if i were a pro, i'd get the company to make me a personal model with high-grade parts... the design to the production model could be kept identical, could it not?
