Haha dunno....but I have a few PA nutter friends, and some just as insane HI-FI geek friends.....they spike and hoist and do strange things.....and they get knocked over by somebody who has the "most insane sound" only to discover...it was all pretty ordinary stuff and located on the floor
But they have fun, and it is quite good some of it, that they cook up from time to time.

Oh man, I thought metal spikes and cones like the ones used in home theater were supposed to isolate the sound and prevent the transfer of unwanted vibrations. Cones and spikes have less surface area contacting the floor, etc. therefore less energy/vibration is transferred.

No it's actually the opposite.
If you really wanted to stop the transfer of energy you'd use foam or wool or a synthethic material as used for sound isolation in studios.
These materials don't transmit sound very well they absorb it.
Imagine a saddle on a guitar made of foam, now imagine a saddle made of a small little piece of metal.

Funny you should say that !

That's how hi-fi speakers and in particular, studio monitors are measured.

A line is attached to the roof of an anechoic chamber and the other end secured to the top of the speaker so that the speaker is hanging in space. Frequency response, dispersion characteristics and distortion measurements are then carried out.

Well I work in a company that started out as a PA rental and such...plus alot of HI-FI...
But HI-FI and PA have very little to do with guitarsounds when it comes down to it...
But that is a different discussion for some other dark cold night
