they are described as a greenback but with more power handling. any experiences? how do they compare to a vintage 30?

I don't know about greenbacks, but if the Veteran 30s are that close to Vintage 30s... then the G12-65s would have more lows and low mids, and a "smoother" treble

Completely different speaker from a V30, like, not even in the same ballpark. They have some similarities with greenbacks, but they hold it together at louder volumes better, to an extent. Super high gain and low tunings is not their forte, but they are THE speakers to pair with a JCM800 type amp for mid gain tones.

The are completely different from a V30. The V30 is driven and nasal, the G12-65 is much more of a powerful, even warm sound.

The G12-65 is Robben Ford approved.

If it's good enough for him, it'll be good enough for me as well.

Wait! I forgot... I DO own a boutique all-tube-P2P amp with a G12-65. It's just that I haven't used for at least three years; all my playing dates were made with one or other kind of hardware and/or software modeler. With a G12-65 IR, that is! ;)

What was the question again..?

+1 to the whole post. I used them with my JCM 800 years back, a great pairing.
