Anyone using the Celestion Golds? I have a 2 x 12 with V30's which I'm not too happy with, but are the Golds worth the big money?

I've only used them once myself, in TF/Dave from BKP Forum 2x12 cab, and can't say as I was too fond of them. They didn't sound bad per-se, but was expecting more for the price and the hype I'd heard.

Celestion are in the process of bringing out a 75w version of the G12H-30, which the original I know pairs very well with V30s, and it's what I'm thinking of changing 1 of my V30s for in my 2x12 cab.

Cheers Craig. I had heard that on their own they sound extremely thick and maybe lacked some "cut". I have never even heard them but the V30's in my 2 x 12 are too cutting.... strange really?

i didnt like the gold i had. sounded kinda lifeless. granted im not playing high gain anything. might be nice mixed with a v30 but i dont know if they are worth the money. im a big fan of the alnico blue and the gold doesnt sound like that at all. the g12h is one of my favorites by itself or paired with a v30.

try a pair of g12k100's. much more meat than a v30.

Have never tried these so I'll keep my eye's open. Cheers.

Yeah I'm a big fan of both the H30's and the Anni's... it will certainly be cheaper to get one of those and try it paired with the V30. It's a shame as I have an old original 70's one repaired H30 sat in a box but it's 15ohm and the V30's are 8ohms.

if the gold was cheaper then id say give it a try but at that price i wouldnt do it if it was me. the 65w isnt as efficient as a v30 but sounds kinda like a greenback with more bottom and a less woody tone. might fill out the spikey tone of the v30. kinda like the g12h/g12m that matchless used. the two speakers sound remarkbly good together even though there is a noticeable difference in efficiency

I have a single Celestion Gold 12" in my practice amp a Marshall VST100. It is great at room volumes but gets mushy and floppy if I use that amp with a full band and push the speaker. My main amp has 4 - Celestion G12T75 speakers and sounds like a dream. Crystal clear at any volume and great definition when I add my distortion stompbox I still get great string separation and clarity.

I think I have been GASing for the Golds since when they came out and there a 2 used locally but it's still a considerable sum of money. I do have a hard time justifying the cost even for a used one when I could get 2 heritage Celestions for the same amount.

Re: Celestion Golds - 12" version - worth the money?

That's my thought Don. Just how good are they and are they worth the extra cash when there are quality speakers out there at considerably cheaper prices...
