Re: Celtic Franklin

(ain't cured yet, are ya, bro?):D

Re: Celtic Franklin

Okay, now for an update:

After playing today, I am not making any changes without playing a few more times. I rearranged the pedals, tried playing with and without them, and I got much closer to the tone I was seeking.

I love Franklin. He's beautiful.

I think the other night I was suffering from ear fatigue and low volume playing. I also tried using the POD as an effects unit. I won't use it in the morning. I will try it again, but on the weekend earlier in the day.

Already played a Franklin, Aislinn, and own an Edana.

No - am not cured yet, I am going to have Scott make a Franklin with a switchable input Power transformer. (e.g., 110V, 120V, 220V, and 240V)

Built-in SFX-03 twin tube classic™ (e.g, Mounted inside the cabinet's sidewall with A/B footswitch to turn it on and off)

Brown Soun 'ToneTubby' TT Alnico 10 and TT Ceramic 10 speakers, mounted into cabinet at a 30 degree offset open back cabinet.

Slight change from the description of it in an earlier post.

Franklin multimedia - Two EL84 power tubes in Class A, an incredible output transformer, a 5AR4 rectifier, and a multiple power input / transformer (e.g., 100V, 120V, 220V or 240V - Marshall plug selectable).

Simple controls: One Input, Vol (Preamp Gain), Bass, Treble and a Master Volume - (Of course, multimedia means multi-voltage and is possible with a Seymour Duncan SFX-3 hard wired and located inside the cabinet)

1x12 Mojo G12H30 Speaker. --- CHANGED

Standard combo configuration - Cream Tolex & Light Brown Cane.

Looks like Scott has more work to do! :smack:

Re: Celtic Franklin

TAKEN FROM THE PAGES ON HARMONY CENTRAL

Response from Celtic Amplifiers....

This amp has a 2xEL84 power section, with 3 12AX7's in the preamp, with a 5AR4 rectifier tube. Speaker is a Mojo G12H30. Cabinet dimensions are 20.5" wide x 19.5" tall x10.5" deep.

The tone is very warm with tight lows and articulate highs. No ear piercing ice picks through the forehead. The best description of the tone would be Vox AC15 and Matchless Lightning, but with a better bass response.

Controls are Volume, Bass, Treble and Master.

Transformers are US-made and heavy as heck. Very stout iron. You can tell it in the tone. Finally, the Franklin is very quiet.

I hope I've been able to add a few details to Stratman's review.

Features: 10
2005 - Straight out of the manufacturer's stock.

I play mostly hot driven blues and rock - This single channel amp does not need channel switching, effect loops or other gizmos.

This amp is in that special class of amplifiers that you can take into any club and it will make your playing shine out.

Suitable for clubs, it will cut through when needed, without getting bartenders, drummers, and singers teed-off.

Sound Quality: 10
I ran a G&L Legecy Special, Jaguar with Seymour Duncan quarter pounders, Jazzmaster with Harmonic Design P-90's into this amp with volume set low. with all these guitars, this amp has a warm clean sparkling tone with nice complexity and more than sufficient detail.

Pushing the volume up it give that special tone that guitar players love and makes you want to keep playing until your finger's bleed.

It's break up retains that bluesy/rock tone with a smooth clean top end, slight dip on the upper mids.

Turning the volume on the guitar instantly cleans up that driven tone.

Tried this amp in an environment that had multiple noise makers (Lights, yet it was relative clean with little hash from that backgound electrical noisey environment. This will make it a great amp to play in bars and small clubs that use those annoying neon lights.

Bottom line - great saturation, great soloing tone, rolling back the volume on the guitar cleans up the sound well.

I love to play the blues and late 60~early70 rock and if anyone else loves to play then you will love the tone of this amp.

Category should be 11+

Reliability: 10
This amp is new, so it's hard to guessimate it's lifespan.

However, it is of those amps that guiter players keep looking for at guitar stores.

I definately recommend it.

Customer Support: 10
The owner of this small company is very helpful.

I have purchased other equipment from him and he has stood behind his ggods.

Overall Rating: 10
Playing since 1964 and I have a lot of gear, mostly vintage amps and guitars. (And of course pedals)

I would purchase a replacement of this amp if stolen.

It compare to those rare matchless amps - that would be my guess.
